PCMCIA Networking TCP/IP to BSD
Hi.
Trying to setup a AmiTCP/IP ppp connection from PCMCIA std A1200 to FreeBSD 5.1 or NetBSD 1.6 on my laptop. (ethernet). Has any one set up a connection like this?? What did you do on your BSD/linux box? (Ie was the BSD box, a DNS Server,...) I've managed to modify /etc/inetd.conf, so I can telnet into my own netbsd / freebsd box on the one machine, ie telnet 127.0.0.1. So how do I set up the BSD box? |

If you can ping both machines from each other, then your network is setup.
From then on, it only depends on which services you want to run. For example, I have an NFS server on the linux box, and mount it on the amiga for file transfers. |

so what ? i'm just linking 2 machines, no router, no switch, just ethernet cable.
so i just give each a hostname, connect the cable and try to ping each, what about that DNS stuff ? ie a DNS server and stuff, all i want is just ftp/rlogin/telnet. |

You dont really need any DNS server and such. If you just want to link ip's to hosts on your lan, just put them in /etc/resolv.conf. All of the above would work though with just plain ip's.
Make sure the ethernet cable is a crossover one if you're linking 2 ethernet adapters directly. Then, start your favorite ftp server on the bsd, and use an ftp client on the miggy to connect. Same with other services, your bsd docs should explaine how to activate them if they are not already. |
