Speaking of Avalaunch/Qwix, does anybody know what happened with the upcoming Qwix 2.00 and updated Avalaunch ?
I guess Team Avalaunch just lost interest.
But then again, v1.01 works just fine.

Hi Guys

Just picked up an XBox from Gamestation today for £20 In brand new condition (boxed & all the gubbins too including DVD remote & IR sensor plugin) thankfully it's working perfectly.

OK time to start modding.

Still trying to make my mind up between hard or soft mod though !!!!

I appreciate you're Welsh but : S-O-F-T-M-O-D
  • Takes 5 minutes,
  • Costs half as much a hard mod (worse case) or nothing at all (best case).
  • No soldering, no even unscrewing of your xbox.
  • Once you've got the gear you can do as many boxes as you like.
  • No disadvantages, period.

Speaking as someone who just went through this, take alexh's advice. It's the quickest, easiest and least expensive way to get the most from your XBOX.

P.S. I got OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast and it's awesome. I'm having such a blast.

Thanks

Alex, I am Greek actually hence my user name C-O-R-F-I-O-T

I agree the softmod is quicker but I need to upgrade the HD as I think the current one is only 8GB, which means I have to take it apart anyway.

Also I don't have any software or memory cards to carry out the soft mod unless someone wants to be so kind & lend them to me, I don't know anyone nearby who has a modded box.

I downloaded it too.

It's pretty good although I prefer Burnout Revenge. I've got about 40 games so far and I've been surprised by how much I liked a few that I didn't really think I'd like. I was also surprised by how quickly my girlfriend got into the XBOX. She's playing Simpson's Road Rage right now.

I may have to get another XBOX.

Cheers Zetro,

I will take you up on it soon for sure,

Mine had four screws in the corners under the foot pads and one under each of the silver stickers. I was shocked how long the screws were. They were more like carriage bolts.

You'll need three TORX screwdrivers. A 20, 15 and 10.

I still advise against a hard-mod. Why waste time and risk soldering when you can sit back, watch TV?

Only reason to hard-mod is if the 300+Gbyte hard drive you want to use does not support locking.

I have a Solderless Mod, screwed into place. Its been in my Xbox a number of Years now and it has not missed a beat once (yet).

Then again, I do not play frisbee with my Xbox like I see some people

Has it even been moved in any of those years? Or has it just sat perfectly still under the TV... just moved ever so slightly for occasional dusting?

Thanks for the Torx sizes Alex

I understand the soft mod option is easier it's just as I said I don't have a memory card or the required Game (or means to load the hack onto the memory card) I will also only be hacking one box,
If I was going to mod 2 or more boxes then the soft route would make better sense for me.

Soldering the mod is not an issue for me & I can replace the HD at the same time.

the on board HD is only 8GB right chaps ?

You don't have a modchip either! Buying one of the games and an memory card will be cheaper.

Yes it gets moved for dusting, its moved several times with furniture shifting, and got dropped once during one of the moves.

If it's a v1.0 - v1.5 a TSOP flash is also possible.
Also regarding solderless modchips, I used to have an XBIT from DMS, it was rock solid the only downside was that it could only be flashed using USB cable.
And when I bought my current PC, I found out that it wasn't compatible with my mobo chipset (nforce 3).
