A500 RCA output: blue colour problem

Hey all you folks! I'm irritated how the colour blue is making "waves" on my TV screen when using A500. Video output comes from A520 adaptor with high quality RCA cable to my 2-year old CRT TV.

This is a matter only with the colour blue. It seems that this colour has different hertz than others. I'm not sure is this Amiga's usual way to behave and produce video signal via TV or is this a real problem. I'm not having this problem with any other devices so my TV works fine. Any clues?

Yeah, just REALLY get rid of that A520 and get a SCART cable if your TV-set has such an input. The A520 outputs composite video only, which is color + brightnes + sync in one signal only. The effect you are seeing is common. You should also see terrible bleeding for 100%, as well as green.

Really go for the other cable!

OK thanks for the advice. I suspected the A520 box and now I get another opinion. Well those Amiga RGB - Scart cables are very rare and cost too much. I suppose it isn't the easiest thing to made it by self so I just live those "waves". Maybe I dream to be in Caribbean with those blue waves while playing games!

$20 delivered is too much?? As long as you have an SCART cable on your TV you should get one.

You still prefer VHS over DVD? The RGB image improvement is in the same dimension.

"The bottle's neck" is my CRT tube TV so the picture quality is low nevertheless the cables I use so I would pay for nothing for this cable...

Ok, when you have a really old CRT with a nearly dead (blurred) picture tube it's worthless. But EVERY cheap CRT with a normal picture output profits immense from using RGB.

Yes I know and my flat screen TV isn't that bad but bigger issue is that stupid box in the back of Amiga that makes it impossible to put the A500 right in front of the TV at the table cause it needs more room because of that darn A520 modulator box!

Without this A520 box you have much more space. Another advantage for the RGB cable.

If it's old, ok. But when it comes to color reproduction and brilliance I would not exchange a *good* tube for a cheap LCD... Just my 2 cents.

Yep I'm not willing to change my 2-year Philips to LCD. I've heard it was the last CRT model from that company so it's the top of the evolution of the series

You are badly mistaken. The RGB cable makes a _very_ visible difference if your TV's tube is still in focus (which I understand it is, as it is only 2 years old). Actually, even if the tube is worn you can still appreciate the improvement. :-D

The Amiga is not exactly a HDTV device. RGB is always worth it even with a single def display.

Ask around in Tampere and borrow an Amiga SCART cable if you're so tough to convince.
