As amilo3438 implied, Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processor X3360 which you may find in small batches on eBay while searching for q9550's, are indeed good to go, as far as end user is concerned (again, check CPU compatibility on your motherboard's manufacturer web site). I have one myself powering my second workstation, even though I prefer pure MHz performance through e8600's 3,33 GHz base speed (a matter of habit). Also, don't neglect the hard drive as a potential source of bottleneck, 10k rotational speed may help to some extend concerning your video editing duties. That's debatable, but I wouldn't hesitate to advocate a second hand WD's Velociraptor as your system drive of choice, as I consider mechanical hard drives more reliable compared to SSD ones.
