Oil Imperium

Okay... I played this game with my friend ten years ago and I'd really like to play it again.

During summer I downloaded the PC version and it ran swell until it was time to extinguish some fires in the oil fields. Then the game crashed.

Yesterday I finally got an Amiga emulator to work (WinUAE) and also managed to start the game with a ROM I got from an abandonware site. It was some weird Germanglish version, with some parts of the text in German and some parts in English.

Anyway the game worked nicely (well, the sounds gave me problems, but that is irrelevant) until it was time... to put out some fires. I can hear the sound of the airplane, but the screen just stays black forever. If I remember correctly, this was the phase where you needed to change the diskette in the original version. Could that have something to do with this? I have both of the disks set and also tried pressing F12 and "eject" and replace the disk number 1 with disk number 2, to no avail.

Other problem was when I needed to assist my workers with the pipelines. For some reason the mouse stops working. You can move the cursor, but only with extreme difficulties. It's impossible to beat the computer player when the cursor refuses to move on the vertical axis almost completely.

I tried two other versions of the game, but I can't them to start up at all. If anyone knows the solutions to these problems, I'd be extremely delighted. Thank you already.

This is definitely an emulator problem But I´m sure Toni is on it

That wouldn't be such a lethal problem, because with good luck (and save/load) you could either avoid the pipeworks completely or have the AI make the mistake of attaching its pipes to mine.

Real trouble comes from the oil field fires and this I'd really love to have fixed.

I tried one other set, but couldn't get it to start up. I also got the first disk of a third set (one disk should be enough to start the game, right?), but it didn't work either. I would've taken the second disk and a fourth set, but the website (planetemu.net) stopped working.

It's strange that the game gives up at the same time as the PC version (on another computer)...

I´ve put another version on my ftp for you to test, they work perfectly on an A500 So if you still got problems, it´s also an emu (or at least a config) problem

Be aware, german version ahead

Okay, I tried your version. I got the Amigados loading screen and the crack text (or whatever it was, it went by too fast), but the screen turned black and the game never started.

Maybe I should try another emulator. What would you recommend?

Does the kick.rom version affect these things? Mine is 3.1 (I think).

Try Kick 1.3, as far as I know this game does not work with Kick 3.1

The site which I got the partly working version from recommended me to get 3.1. Of course, with my luck I'll never find the older one. Poor me. *(

Question Oil Imperium - pipeline work

Hey !

Is the problem fixed so far? Do you know how to move the mouse properly within the pipeline-game?

A post would be nice.

It is. Toni's numerous mouse fixes should now make pipelining possible without problems again. Drilling should work now as well.

Ok, I now downloaded WinUAE 8.22 R4 - but the mouse does not move properly during pipeline action.

Any other things I can do about it ?

Maybe waiting for 0.8.22 R5 would be sufficient...if you read the WIP report on the page I gave you, you'll see that there were more mouse fixes done meanwhile...maybe one of them could be suitable for your game.
For drilling:
you could also try a kind of hack: experiment with the CPU->Chipset slider in CPU settings. This is HIGHLY CPU-dependent, but you can anyway try to move it in the middle or even to the utmost right to slow down the emulated CPU. This helped some users where movement was too fast to perform accurate drills.

As a German user, you might also want to visit the GAEB where this has already been discussed extensively and users posted solutions for this notorious problem.
@EAB Team: This is not supposed to be "advertising". I only posted this link because Oil Imperium was originally a German game.
