Question What was the first video game to feature a fruit machine as a power-up device?

I don't mean as the main game, that's too easy. I'm talking about 'game within a game' point/power-up boosting arrangements.

Off the top of my head I can think of Superfrog (1993) and Kid Gloves 2 (1992). I'm sure there must be earlier examples though.

Doki Doki Panic (Japanese release, 1987) a.k.a. Super Mario Bros. 2 (US release, 1988) had one of these between stages, fueled by the coins you pick up in-game.

Penguin Adventure on MSX(1986?) You dropped down a hole and could play a slot machine to win fish which you bartered for powerups.

Cheers everyone, great trivia. I'd never have guessed these.

I'll give you a mention in my upcoming Little Beau article and link back here.

Ah, Little Beau: an unfinished game with GREAT music, but when they did finish it as Kid Gloves 2 (I think) they didn't use that music - why?

I think Tim Bartlett's music was just shuffled around. Isn't this the same as the preview tune?

I get the impression from Codetapper's interview with the coder that it was finished before Millennium took over the reigns.
