Cracking Tutorials?
Are there any Cracking Tutorials available apart from the one written on Carrier Command?
Also, what programs are required for cracking if using actual Amiga and alternatively if using PC? |

There's a bunch on flashtro.com, but most are rather dubious in terms of the "tutorial" requirement.
Rob's are basically all copylock cracks but are of the "type this, then this, then this, cracked" variety rather than teaching anything much. But there's some good ones there too. In terms of tools to use, most people use either Resource to disassemble a program, or go the WinUAE debugger or Action Replay route. |

Any in particular that are good to start with? Quote:
...and do these same tools work successfully through the emulators (WinUAE or WinFellow)? Also, was/is an Action Replay always going to be the main method of breaking into an MFM type disk or was there any other (non-cartridge based) method of getting access to it? I would start with the Strider tutorial by Codetapper, or the Golden Axe tutorial by Phantasm on Flashtro... you can probably skip almost all of the "single-track protection" section for the reason Codetapper already mentioned (they are more like a recipe of how to crack a particular game, rather than teaching you techniques/skills).
Several tutorials by Alpha-One (MFM section) and maybe even one or two by myself are also worth a read Locating the original files isn't very difficult, I believe the Google can assist you there. Action Replay was/is the 'default' tool of choice, noone can argue that it isn't the most efficient method to crack most games (disregarding WinUAE debugger, since that wasn't available back in the 90s and as such is never used for people looking to wallow in cracking nostalgia!). Other tools such as beermon (or any other type of monitor) were also popular - at the most basic level you need a disassembler and an assembler as the minimum... If you're interested more in how it worked "back in the day", you can also read my little tutorial on Warpers @ Flashtro. Good luck! You can always PM me here or on Flashtro if you have a question. |

Although just seeing the name again reminded me, on some of the later Grapevine/LSD disks I think vaguely I remember the existence of another cracking tutorial and I think the cracker may have actually named themselves in it (i.e. same name they used in the cracktros). If it wasn't Grapevine, was there another series of disks similar to those? |

Requesting and posting information about the location of SPS files is a breach of the forum rules. Do not make me close this thread!
Thank you |

There is also a Elite tutorial which uses the ARC3 and a budokan tutorial.
I use amiga monitor by timo rossi as I didn't have a ARC on my real amiga. there is a copylock tutorial on the Atari forum using MonST. Last edited by redblade; 30 January 2014 at 10:19. Reason: there is a copylock tutorial on the Atari forum using MonST |

Yep that sounds familiar, I think I read that one some time ago.
I remember this but stupidly didn't pay much attention to it as I thought the game was crap lol and wasn't interested wasting time looking at it much. Do you have any links for either? Don't think so? Though could be wrong. Think it was from a later time than yours. Last edited by ufo; 30 January 2014 at 11:12. Reason: Because Galahad wept! |

On the original topic of 'tutorials', I remember some reading materials back in the day (maybe not quite tutorials, they could possibly have been manuals or books) about registers/addressing for Agnus, Paula and Denise (on the A500) and their differences.
Not sure if it was official printed Commodore material or not. Sound familiar to anyone and any links for this or anything similar? Also remember having some trouble finding the same kind of thing for Alice (A1200) - so any information on that would also be welcome. Quote:
From the beginning, what setup were you using to crack on an A500 and how did it change over time? (ie. did you buy more RAM, hard drive etc.?) Last edited by ufo; 31 January 2014 at 02:53. |

Here is the budokan one. Maybe there are others on the crackerjournal and grapevine disks. Did you just have the standard 512km ram expansion?

ufo:
Elowar's site has various docs, hardware reference manual being the most useful to you probably! If you google for "aga.guide amiga" you will come across a plaintext listing of all the custom registers and what they do, updated to reflect AGA changes. |
