not true, the a500 1mb board will work in all A500s, it will only report 1mb chipmem in the A500+, the earlier revisions will report as 512k ram at $C00000 unless they have been modded to report trapdoor ram as chipmem.

due to the confusion i see in this thread, i think the A500 should be restored to original state to see if there are now other issues that have crept in before trying to do some trouble shooting. kickstart ROMs are notorious for being zapped by incorrectly placing them either backwards or off by one pin in the socket, Red screen is a very good indication of this.

See my post above @kipper2k. It's working now. The solution was to not bend Gary's leg out, and to remove the solder blob on your board instead.

Ok, good to know.

Also, I missed a pullup on the motherboard. I thought the exram pullup was inside the gary, but it is not. Hence bending it out was incorrect info. Apologies.

Don't worry about it Jope, it's all been a very nice learning experience. I now know how to do a chip mod on an A500.

Well, if it's one thing I hate it's incorrect info. And even more I hate it when I've been parroting incorrect info. Such is life, I went back and edited all the times I've mentioned it in the past.

Yeah don't worry about it. My joy of finally getting it working wouldn't have been so high without the wild Gary I mean goose chase first 😉

@kipper2k What does removing the solder blob on ExtClockEnable actually do on your card? Because now the card's clock doesn't keep time.

I removed the blob because in your picture the blob was removed. But did I really need to, to get this mod working, or was that a red (screen) herring?

it is short for External clock enable, in other words, you need this blob in order to enable the external clock (on the fastmem board .

the a500+ has its own clock so only one clock can be enabled, so you need t enable one or the other.

I thought so, but as per the conversation above, is there any reason this blob would make or break the chip mem hack on my Rev5 or was that a red screen herring?

@kipper2k please respond. I'm really stuck. I soldered back the ExtClockEnable blob so I could have a working clock (the purpose of buying your card) and now the machine won't boot again. If I take your card out, it boots fine.

Should this blob be blobbed or unblobbed?

Unfortunately I haven't heard back from him after sending the photos.

I reinstated the blob and the machine is fine again.

In fact, I finally finished Future Wars! Great game.

He's doing some testing on a Rev5 machine, as per this thread.
