due to the confusion i see in this thread, i think the A500 should be restored to original state to see if there are now other issues that have crept in before trying to do some trouble shooting. kickstart ROMs are notorious for being zapped by incorrectly placing them either backwards or off by one pin in the socket, Red screen is a very good indication of this. |

See my post above @kipper2k. It's working now. The solution was to not bend Gary's leg out, and to remove the solder blob on your board instead.

Also, I missed a pullup on the motherboard. I thought the exram pullup was inside the gary, but it is not. Hence bending it out was incorrect info. Apologies. Last edited by Jope; 10 October 2015 at 08:42. |

Don't worry about it Jope, it's all been a very nice learning experience. I now know how to do a chip mod on an A500.

Well, if it's one thing I hate it's incorrect info. And even more I hate it when I've been parroting incorrect info. Such is life, I went back and edited all the times I've mentioned it in the past.

Yeah don't worry about it. My joy of finally getting it working wouldn't have been so high without the wild Gary I mean goose chase first 😉

Good to hear you got it running in the end. :-) |

@kipper2k What does removing the solder blob on ExtClockEnable actually do on your card? Because now the card's clock doesn't keep time.
I removed the blob because in your picture the blob was removed. But did I really need to, to get this mod working, or was that a red (screen) herring? |

the a500+ has its own clock so only one clock can be enabled, so you need t enable one or the other. |

I thought so, but as per the conversation above, is there any reason this blob would make or break the chip mem hack on my Rev5 or was that a red screen herring?

Should this blob be blobbed or unblobbed? |

Unfortunately I haven't heard back from him after sending the photos.
I reinstated the blob and the machine is fine again. In fact, I finally finished Future Wars! Great game. |
