Wow- hope you are OK. We only got 20-30MPH winds here and a little rain. All it did was knock over trash cans. We were lucky... looks like many weren't.

R.Cade, how about writing an excel list of the content of disk labels? that way we could tell you if some disks are more of a priority to preserve?

you could take a picture of disks set nicely on the floor if typing the content is too much hassle?

A list should be cool to select the most important unreleased ones. Or split it up and find enough people world wide to make adf's out of them

200 disks per draw, poor r.cade, he's gonna hate you for asking for an excel list

r.cade, perhaps you and some family members or friends could help you with that daunting task, it's better to share than trying to do it all by yourself, believe me, I know, but a list would definitely be advantageous to the preservation team

You never know what is on a disk just by its labels though. You can't be sure that there isn't something interesting on a disk that looks otherwise.
I have an idea... What if the lot of disks were split up by the drawer, but the people who got the disks collaborated on them and uploaded each disk to one place on the internet, so anyone could access it. Each person would have rights to upload files. It could be using a dropbox or something like that, and then once they are uploaded, they could go somewhere to be available for download online.
And if someone wanted more then one drawer, they could do that. But I just think it would be a great way to split up the shipping costs, the workload, and the time.

to make shipping cheap might wanna lose the drawers and use flat rate shipping
we can put all the disks on archive.org many amigas games already there etc
even play them from within the browser

That is a good idea! Can software that is not games or demos go on there too? Like random programs, or disks of files for some programs in the collection?

I would absolutely do this, but I'm living in Denmark. Packaging and shipping of 6000 disks would be a major undertaking and cost a fortune.

My suggested approach would be to record all labels in a shared spreadsheet, as suggested by Crown, and let the community prioritize the list (1 = top priority, 2 = can wait, 3 = don't bother).

The next step would probably be to import the spreadsheet in a database and expose it on a web page. A service would monitor a folder holding the ADFs as they trickle in and update the database accordingly. Community members would be able to test the ADFs, add comments, and otherwise adjust parameters of the associated record.

Elegant solution? I think so. Overdesigned? Absolutely.

So, r.cade, how much do you think it would be to ship 1 drawer of disks to a place in the lower 48?
