Request: Forest Dumb Forever

While the game comes with an HDD installer, there is at least two issues:

1) The game won't start unless Disk 2 is in DF0:
2) The game has at least some (blitter wait?) display bugs on fast setups.

I'm aware that the game is still being sold via ACP & TCP, though it's also available as an (apparently) free legal download at https://www.ppa.pl/rodzynki/forest-dumb-forever.html

Well.. from the very brief check that I did, those two were definite issues with running it from an HDD, there may well be more issues. I've just been given a generic WHDLoad install, which might be enough for my friend to play it on his setup.

I don't know, I guess.. I figured a proper WHDLoad install may be worth doing, it seems to be a reasonably OK platformer.

WHDLoad version for tests in The Zone. Enjoy.

Info:
WHDLoad 15+, chip memory $5c000 (376832 bytes), other memory $80000 (524288 bytes).
Following things fixed.
- removed disk check (+fix copjmp and dma)
- patched load files, because I used WHDLoad Relocate.
- main file 'FOREST_DUMB_FOREVER' can be packed
- added highscore saving (original game doesn't have it). When cheat was enabled highscore is not saved.
- fixed clr.w $dff088 --> move.w d0,$dff088 (*10)
- fixed blitwait (*23)
- fixed PORTS int
- removed access to CIABPRB
- added posibility to set level code with joystick. info 1. below
- added posibility to set highscore with joystick. info 2. below
- added mapping for cd32 pad buttons. PLAY - pause/unpause, REVERSE + FORWARD - quit to title, YELLOW - when you cheat zeroed coins

info 1.
You can use joystick to set level code.
- joy up - increase digit number,
- joy down - decrease digit number,
- joy left - go to previous digit number,
- joy right - go to next,
- joy fire - exit from setting the code level.

I spent on this shit almost two days, because game has hardcoded code 3456 and than overwrite it with actual code like 0556. So Is more than possible to see glitch (hardcoded 3456 code for a moment) when you changing level code with joystick. I didn't fix that glitch.

Info 2.
You can use joystick to set highscore.
- joy up - next letter,
- joy down - previous letter,
- joy left - previous char in highscore,
- joy - right next char in highscore.
- joy fire - end of highscore (like enter).
This game has serious bug in highscore: To duplicate it. just write some letter and then press DEL, color of char will change to dark green but char will deleted from highscore string. I didn't fix that.

Things to do: make install, add possiblity to use packed files (packer suppported by WHDLoad of course ) + optimize source code a bit.

I stolen and used ReadJoyPad.s from BubbleBobble WHDLoad install. So special thanks goes to JOTD

- something for WHDLoad devs - rs file for main file and generated asm file only for educational reasons, hunk information.

For those interested version from ppa.pl is actually crack. Original game has copy protection on disk on track 1 and 2. I supplied my original to Asman.

I have the German version of this original game and there are no security features. I hooked it up out of curiosity whether it would work and .... works with Asman slave, super bravo
