GVP 2000 HC+8 or Buddha Flash into my A4000
I currently have a GVP 2000 HC+8 scsi card with 8 MB of RAM and a Buddha Flash IDE card on my A2000. Which would be a better choice to put into my A4000? The A4000 currently makes due with the onboard IDE and 16 MB onboard RAM.

Depends how much speed you want and whether you want to plug in compact flash cards directly. Zorro II isn't all that fast.
I have an A2058 board in my A3000. Thankfully I haven't ended up running any code from it yet. The internal hard drive transfers at a better rate than the A2058 (around 6MB/s via internal SCSI vs 3,5MB/s for the Zorro II RAM). Last edited by Jope; 01 December 2009 at 08:52. |

The thing is that the A2000 doesn't really benefit of all the 8MB the GVP has to offer, since I've got also an A2620 installed on it with 2 MBs. Didn't have the chance to actually test it after getting the GVP but I had read from a thread at A.org that someone with similar setup had faced memory conflicts and had to jumper the GVP down to 4 MB. On the other hand, does the A4000 really benefit from the slower Zorro II RAM?
A DKB 3128 or a Warp Engine or similar would probably be the best option but those don't come cheap. |

Zorro II is butt slow, so there's no point in adding RAM that way. The Buddha is about equal in speed to the internal A4000 IDE port, so there's no benefit there either.

The only benefit of either is the clock ports on the Buddha Flash.
Neither are really worth having in an A4000. Sell them both and see if you can make enough to afford a A4091 or a Fastlane Z3 |

Thanks for the advice! Better to start gathering up dough for a proper turbo card. I figure that by selling the A2000 with its accessories and the A3640 that I have I'd probably would come up with enough cash for a WarpEngine.
What's the speed of the A4000 onboard IDE anyway? |

When was the last time you saw one for sale? Do they come up regularly? I see Cyberstorm MKI & II fairly frequently but I've never seen a Warp Engine for a long time.
Depends on the CPU. |

I bought a Warp engine from the USA (Ebay) about a year ago and have only seen one other up for sale since.

I guess I have to start looking for a Cyberstorm, then. That may have to wait until I can get my hands on the A2000. Not much point of having both Buddha and the GVP in there, anyway.
