Super Hires Mode
Hi this is my first attempt using this mode on my new 1920x1080 monitor.
If I attempt a super hires display with double line mode it just seems to stretch the display horizontally and not vertically, so it loses its correct aspect ratio, unlike normal hires mode. Or am I missing something here?? |

Superhires without interlace is 1280x256 instead of hires 640x256. So fonts are basically squeezed horizontally to half width!
Edit: oh, added screenshot changes everything. Mine looks like 320x256 when I change to SuperHires (WinUAE 2.3) I guess it's supposed to support the ECS SuperHires mode, which of course means your window must be 1280 px wide to see any utils that use that mode. No, I'm talking about the setting in the winuae display properties.
I thought the whole idea of this option was to enlarge the display of winuae on larger monitors? That is right isn't it? Correct me if I'm wrong. Last edited by Steve; 15 November 2010 at 21:50. |

You need to scale the display vertically by 4, since a super hires pixel effectively has a 1:4 aspect.

I thought winuae would do that automatically. Like Lores should default to normal line mode, hires should default to double line mode and super hires should default to quadruple line mode or something like. Seems logical to me. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm sure Toni would say so if I was. lol.

Does hires <> lores automatically change vertical aspect ratio? No, it does not.
There is no "linequadruple" mode (and there won't be). Use filters. |

So what's the point in it then? Seems pretty pointless to me.

Maybe you've just misunderstood what the setting does. It's not used to plainly scale the image, it's to enable all pixel information of the set resolution to be output. Try setting it to lowres and boot into your hires Workbench or CLI and you'll see that it effectively cuts away half of the pixels.
If you set it to super hires it will take super hires pixel information into account and output a 1280 pixels wide display. Since you've only used hires modes there's no super hires pixel information, and it appears as a plain 2x horizontal scale to you. Enable super hires, normal line mode, go into filter settings and use the null filter with 1x scale, set horiz. size to 1x and vertical size to 4x, and you'll get a nice and large picture that will show all pixel detail if you ever run super hires apps. |

Run Prefs/Screenmode, select PAL:Superhires Interlaced, then you get 1280x512 with correct aspect, i.e. 2:1.
If you select PAL:Superhires in screenmode, but "only" hires in WinUAE, then you get wrong aspect. You also get wrong aspect if you select superhires in WinUAE but not in AmigaOS. |

Yes I think I must have misunderstood what the setting does. Using 4x vertical gives me a nice large display. Looks great, thanks Leffmann. I'm only five years late in responding.
