can anyone recommend some good C64 games?

i just got a C64 emulator for my phone, but never having actually owned one (i had an atari 800XL ) i was hoping some of you could point me in the right direction of some good games....

also, there's an MSX emu out for it too, are there any good games for that?

C64 games? Geez, where do we start with this one? Akira, Amigaboy, help me out here!

Gotta throw in Turrican 1 or 2, Creatures 1 or 2, Monty on the Run, IK+, Pitstop II, Summer Games, California Games, Defender of the Crown, Combat School, Bubble Bobble, Ghost 'n'Goblins, & G.I. Joe.

I can't vouch for how well they'll run on a mobile phone C64 emulator, just under ordinary lameulation they'll run fine.

There'll be a heap more to add to the list, it really depends what type of games you like really!

Some classic C64 games

There are many classics for the C64. These are my favorites which I play once in a while:
Arkanoid by Imagine, 1986;
Cataball aka Hoppin' Mad by Hit-Pak, 1987;
Commando by Elite, 1986;
Evolution by Sydney Development Group, 1982;
Fast Eddie by Sirius, 1982;
Guzzler by Interceptor, 1984;
Last Ninja II by System 3, 1988;
Nebulus aka Tower Toppler by Rainbow Arts, 1988;
Nibbly '92 by Double Density, 1992;
Qix, 1984;
Tapper by Americana, 1984;
Wizball by Sensible Software for Ocean, 1987;
Zenji by Activision, 1984.

Have a look at the Zzap!64 website for review of C64 stuff from the time.

A good overview is the Gold Medal Award list.

The C64 version of Bubble bobble is great.
I'd also suggest Impossamole starring Monty mole (same series as monty on the run). I don't know why it gets so much criticism. It's a nice little game.

And I can't believe noone has mentioned impossible mission.

Dinky doo is a good game which doesn't need more buttons pressed at the same time either (in case your phone doesn't support it).

Bubble Bobble. Definitely. Most of the games I loved for the C64 have aged badly, but not Bubble Bobble. I were playing Miami Vice again a while ago, and it struck me that, well, it's not really fun anymore. Same with a few other titles that I used to think of as timeless classics.

But Bubble Bobble is still as great as it was back then, so play that. And Stix. Bruce Lee, perhaps? Giana Sisters?

If you had an Atari 800XL You'll find that most of your favourites for that area available on the C64 in slightly stripped down form., so have a look for them.

Jubble bobble for MIDP 1.0 enabled cellphones is a good remake of bubble bobble. Runs incredibly fast too.

Raid on Bungeling Bay
Raid over Moscow
Beachhead 2
Jumpman/Jumpman Jr.
90% of the games published by Electronic Arts or Epyx

i'd recommend Questron 2/Legacy of the Ancients/Legend of Blacksilver and Ultima IV except for the fact you're playing on the phone

Does it actually support multiple button presses too? most cellphones only support one button pressed at a time.

@Matfink
Hmmmm where to start.....there are so many. Here's a very select bunch that I can recommend off the top of my head:

Boulder Dash (think there were 4 official ones; all hugely addictive)

Mega Apocalypse (kick-arse Mad Planets clone with funky music & sound fx by Martech)

Impossible Mission (Epyx)

International Karate, IK+ (both by System 3)

The Last Ninja 1, 2 & 3 (System 3)

The Way of the Exploding Fist (Melbourne House)

Pang (Ocean)

Wizball (Ocean)

Combat School (Imagine/Ocean; excellent coin-op conversion)

H.E.R.O. (Activision)

Pastfinder (Activision; vastly underrated shoot-em'up)

Rock 'n' Wrestle (Melbourne House)

Hypersports (Imagine/Ocean; great coin-op conversion)

Hacker (Activision)

Summer Games 1 & 2, Winter Games, World Games, California Games (Epyx)

Super Cycle (Epyx)

Buggy Boy (Elite)

Ghostbusters (Activision; classic game)

The Eidolon (Lucasfilm Games)

Koronis Rift (Lucasfilm Games)

Beach Head 1 & 2 (Access)

Uridium (Hewson)

Turrican 1 & 2 (Rainbow Arts)
