Cool thanks for that video, it's very slow still but at least the color mapping seems to be working a lot better now.

from the scummvm.org download page I see only "AmigaOS 4 package (10.3M .lha)", does this mean 3.1 kickstart or below are not supported?

Hiya,

The 68k versions are not (yet) part of the official ScummVM project, so you have to grab them from AmiNet.

I am working with the devs from ScummVM team to get at least the RTG version included with the official builds.

I just uploaded version 1.2.1.098 to AmiNet and the Zone.

This version uses an older version of the ScummVM engine and should be more usable on real ECS hardware.

Here's a little video of it running on my AGA machine: [ Show youtube player ]

Quote:
This special build of ScummVM is performing a real-time 256 color to 64 color (ECS) optimized conversion every time the palette changes. Each frame rendered has to be converted from the game's chunky pixel format to the Amiga's native planar format (display is also double buffered).

The ScummVM GUI is converted from 65k colors down to a palette of 64 optimized colors just once at program startup.

Wouldn't it be better to use that old version for a new 030 AGA version? I mean to play Fullthrottle for example.

Just gave it a spin on my A600.
Loading ScummVM with the old 1.3.1 version took 44 seconds while with the 1.2.1 tool 33 seconds.

I tested "Day of the Tentacle Demo" which was a LOT more responsive now but still not the best for testing it as it seems demanding.
Will have to find some time to make some comparison videos showing both versions at the same time.

Thanks for this version Novacoder my friend.

under OS3.5 on my 1230, with AHI 4.18, it doesn't work. I have picked Indy 4 atlantis, and when loading, the screen stays black.....

Cool, thanks for testing it again

This is as fast as I can get it now, hopefully older games will be playable on a fast A600 with this version.

Also don't forget that you can change the palette update delay tooltype, if you set it higher it should make the games faster but may produce some funny looking screens, it's really a game and machine specific setting.

Did the old version work?

Have you tried opening the AHI prefs, do you get any error messages? Have you read the readme and setup you AHI properly?

Also check the ScummVM_ECS folder for an error log file.

Do not enable music and make sure you are not playing something that uses compressed audio as this is not supported by the ECS build.

Try this demo -> DOTT Demo

Hi Nova, this works very well, the 256 colors to EHB rendering is good.
It surprised me to be able to run this on a600 and it is playable, it was fun testing

But Sierra games do not work (King Quest, Quest for Glory).

Can ScummVM_ECS could be recompiled with earlier engine (v1.7) or does this need sources code adjustments / hard work (apart of ogg/mp3/... decoders) ?

Best regards,

Hello flype, which accelerator/expansion do you have on your A600?

I tested ScummVM_ECS on WinUAE / A600 KS31 / 1Mb Chip Ram / 8Mb Z2 Fast Ram / ECS Chipset / 030 CPU without JIT without FPU.

I guess it should work on real A600 + ACA630 (+ KS31 ?).

Thanks, unfortunately I don't have a 030 on my A600... maybe in the future... I'd appreciate if someone with an ACA630 could test it and let us know...

@NovaCoder

I'm looking closer at ScummVM releases :

ScummVM_ECS_030 1.2.1.098
ScummVM_AGA_030 1.3.1.031 <=== No FPU
ScummVM_AGA_040 1.4.1.001 <=== FPU
ScummVM_AGA_060 1.4.1.001
ScummVM_RTG_040 1.4.1.001
ScummVM_RTG_060 1.4.1.001

1/

Does this means that starting with 1.4.1.001,
you have encountered some FPU compilations problems ?

2/

ScummVM_AGA_030 ==> Hero's Quest ==> do not work
ScummVM_AGA_040 ==> Hero's Quest ==> work

So i guess such Sierra games works since 1.4.1+.

3/

Seems that ScummVM_ECS_030 could - at least - been updated to 1.3.1.031 ?

4/

Can you eventually compiles ScummVM_ECS_40/60 release (1.4.1.001 engine) ?

I know it is not real hardware, but it could be the case in close future (Vampire boards).

Hiya,

The 030 ECS version doesn't need (or use) an FPU.

Hero's Quest is only supported by more powerful CPU's, an 030 just isn't powerful enough I'm afraid.

040/060 are only compiled to use FPU as it makes sense (most 040/060's have an FPU).

Thank you for answering.

Sure, you are right.

But let's say we have a very fast 68000 or a 68060 without FPU as it is the case in lastest Vampire600 cores (Phoenix core), could you please compile a special version of ScummVM_ECS_68000 1.4.1.001 or even better a ScummVM_ECS_68060nofpu ?

I'm sure it will be fast enough and very curious to see the result

An 060 non-FPU compile of the old ECS build wouldn't be much work but an ECS 060 non-FPU build of 1.4.1 would take too much time for me to do.

Hi (sorry for late answer),

Thank you for the proposal but, well, no need to build another 1.3.1 for 060, it will not be much faster than current 030 (as it is yet non fpu), don't waste your time on in.

And, for ECS/1.4.1, oh well, i can understand that is not so easy.

Anyway, thanks you very much for your attention.

Best regards.
