Dumb A1200 external CDROM 3.9 question

Ok being a bit dumb here but wanted to know that if I'm running OS 3.9 and a hook up a CDROM drive on a seperate IDE channel what would happen? In other words, do you still need to mount a CDROM driver/device or would it just work 'out of the box' with 3.9?

Seperate IDE channel mean you have an 4way buffered device with Primary-Secondary headers.
If you mount to the Secondary channel then you need to run Idefix software.
For Primary channel you don't need a thing

Even on the primary channel you still need Devs/DosDrivers/CD0, L:CacheCDFS and a version of scsi.device which recognises ATAPI drives. The advantage of OS 3.9 is that all that comes with the OS and you don't need to buy additional third-party software.
