3GB HDF file is displayed as only 855mb??

ive got to copy some files from my amiga sd card.

i created a hdf file in winuae using RDB/OFS/FFS
i then added it as DH3

the hdf shows up as DH3:NDOS when i boot my sd card in winuae.
i quick formatted it using the default format option on the workbench toolbar - fast file system, directory cache etc

it says during the format message windows that its 3000mb

how come when i open the window in dopus or elsewhere it says theres only 855mb free?

Because those file systems only support 2GB. It has "wrapped around" and only shows you the last ~850M

Filesystem max size and what WB/Info/utilities show have nothing in common. Almost any "old" utility shows >2G free space incorrectly, including WB. (Note that directory harddrives include hack that works around this problem)

Do not create partition hardfiles larger than 1G unless you really know what are you doing. (Quick hint: if HDF panel says "too many cyls". You will have problems. Increase surfaces until it disappears.)

Use full drive/RDB mode and partition it using hdtoolbox, like using real hardware. It is slightly more safer.
