I've not play many RPG on Amiga, I played most on C64. Anyway, I loved very much:

1 - Dragon Wars
2 - Crystal Dragon
3 - Eye of the Beholder I & II
4 - Legend of Faerghail
5 - Legends of Valour

And naturally, all the AD&D Goldbox Series (I love them on any platform).

1. Eye of the Beholder 1 & 2. It's a crime that 3 was never released on the Amiga, especially since there could have been an AGA version!
2. Ishar 1, 2, & 3.

I suppose that's technically 5 choices! Oh well.

Steve.

In no particular order.

1: Perihelion
2: Captive
3: Evils Doom
4: Realms of Arkania
5: Might & Magic III
6: Trapped ( it was sort of like an RPG but a beautiful 3D texture mapped game )

And oh yep, as someone else mentioned.. and how could i have forgotten it!!... number 7 is-

7: Ambermoon

Send a message via MSN to dlfrsilver
You can add Fate Gates Of Dawn, which is very good and even longer than
all the other RPGs apart Ambermoon.

When you first start playing it, you think to yourself ( slow and repetitive ), but then as time goes on, it improves in leaps and bounds and you find yourself hooked until you finish it!.

It has some beautiful graphics too

Antepenult is a freeware RPG, but I remember there is no main quest, is it right? It's only a fun adventuring, exploring and fighting game.

EDIT: I found it on Aminet, but it's shareware, not freeware. Is it possible to register even to our days or I must search for a registered copy "around"? :|

The single game of the rpg category where i actually felt some kind of role playing was Perihelion: the game was completely linear, yet that was the feeling to me, a deep and compelling story that you as the player were affecting, if in the only direction possible.

yeah, many other RPG had great deal of fascination over me but seriously, there was little to none role and lot of arcade. EOB games are arcade or platforms!

maybe Ishar was a good role game. but was often so nonsensical and hard that the playing was not so fun.

Sorry for my auto-quote... The game can be completed even without registering. Just I read the README file (it there's a file called README, maybe it means I have to read it ...)

3. I will send you back a code you can enter into Antepenult to get certain "perks." These will help you, but not much, and I must emphasize that you do NOT need to register in order to complete the game successfully.

I wouldn't consider Total Chaos as a RPG game, it's a strategy game. Tried Ishar 1-3 ages ago, but there is nothing appealing besides the nice graphics.

This thread topic is once again a bit vague: There are action RPG's, single/party RPG's, strategy games with a RPG flair, console-like RPG's etc. The best traditional ones are imho:

A: Ambermoon
B: Bard's Tale Trilogy
C: Pools of Darkness
D: Legend of Faerghail
E: Dungeon Master
F: Buck Rogers

and some more

It's funny you should mention this, I've been playing it recently and I'm not a big fan of RPGs by any means but I found it utter tosh. Not exactly the pinnacle of user-friendliness, presentation or atmosphere.

Well, I love an RPG when it's not user-friendly! A good retro CRPG must be geek-friendly only

EDIT:
@gimbal
