Arrow EAB Tournament

Ok, this is something I had in mind for some weeks now

I would like to arrange a EAB Tournament (date to be announced later) with some people here. First of all, I would like to have your opinion on this one ! Are you interested ? Also I would like to know WHAT game exactly you would like to play at this Tournament, maybe we can make an EAB-League ?

Here some suggestions from my side (others are welcome, just post it ) :

- Sensible Soccer
- Kick Off
- Worms DC
- Super Cars
- Nitro

Now it´s your turn ..........

Sensi sounds fine to me!

I would love the opportunity to put my Sensi God reputation on the line.

I would normally encourage this sort of thing, but I will suggest postponing any Tournament just until the next release of WinUAE - Kaillera, otherwise it's a great idea!

To begin with, the upcoming release will be (should be) faster, more reliable, far easier to configure, and well, usable.

I'm hoping to have it completed simultaneously with or shortly after the next official version of WinUAE, to include every last bug fix & feature.

I'd love to take part, but I can see one problem.

Yes I know a bad workman always blames his tools but playing games on WinUAE will have me trying to whip all your asses on a crappy gamepad. And on 56K

I NEED MY AMIGA JOYSTICKS FOR FULL COMPETITION!!!!

Out of the games mentioned, Nitro, Kick Off and Super Cars titles should be as good as mine under ideal conditions. OK I may be a bit rusty after all these years but the old magic should still be there...........somewhere. Hopefully. If the Alcohol hasn’t numbed my reactions.

BTW, who wants to complete Bloodwych with me?*

*expects ZERO response

Nice one!

No need for the maps! I know the ENTIRE game off by heart due to finishing it about 5 times!!! A mean feat since many of the corridors look exactly the same!

I would love to be in a tournament.. any game and I am in (even if I suck at the game... at least I know I'll have some fun )

But I also have the same problem of being in a 56 k connection, and I live in Brazil, far away of most people here (Except Fissuras and Akira ), so I am definately a non-go.

I would like to see Micro-Machines and Brutal Sports Football in this list too.(I am very good at Micro Machines, and I REALLY DOUBT anyone can beat me in Brutal Football )

And Blackcorn, I could beat you at sensi ANYTIME

I use the WHDload version of Bloodwych and the data disk as you can have 10 save game points. I've also got them in ADF format but last time i checked the save game wouldn't work whilst running from floppy. WinUAE save state might however.

Knightmare. Hmm. I'll have to check, loved the intro music from the TV series on the title screen. You've just reminded me that this game (along with Black Crypt) has never been completed by yours truly! I think I got stuck on both of them years ago.

56k and slower connections have a better chance at turn based games, take "Battle Chess" for example, or "Worms" configured for reasonable turn times.

To get a general idea of the quality of gameplay you might expect, you can test your ping time, jump to a command prompt via Start -> Run... "command.com" or "cmd" for NT/2K/XP.

Now enter ping, followed by the hostname or IP address of the game server.

e.g.
Code:
Z:\>ping abime.net

Pinging abime.net [80.239.168.80] with 32 bytes of data:

...

Ping statistics for 80.239.168.80:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 437ms, Maximum =  438ms, Average =  437ms
This is the time it takes for one 32 byte packet to travel there and back, WinUAE - Kaillera won't be sending near as much data (3 bytes to be precise) but more often and close together. Due to my weak average ping of 437ms to abime.net, here would not be the best of places to host a game, it largely depends on your location.

Running a remote server, I played a game of "Silkworm" with myself, it was playable and constant at 150ms, yet there is still significant lag, I had to plan my moves slightly ahead of time. I originally thought the game's speed would be bound to the slowest player's ping, but it seems that is not the case, it is fluid most of the time.

If you have a high ping you will lag behind, in other words your control response will be severely delayed, so games that impose fast reflexes are best suited to players that reside in the same neighborhood as the host server. I presume this is no different to if you were using any other Kaillera supporting emulator, enter any one of the numerous servers and you will find most players with below 50ms pings.

To make it fair, find a server that is both of equal and fast ping to all players. There is no reason why a dial-up user cannot have an enjoyable game, if you are one with a poor ping, balance it out by choosing a server closer to you.

whao, you live in the opposed side of the world don't you ?!
abime.net is hosted on the backbone connection of viking III network,
we are covering all the Europe & Us with better ping than 400ms ! (I hope )

Well, my ping sux no matter it's destination!

From here in Australia it takes over 20+ hops to reach your server, it dies the very moment it leaves the continent.
