db15 to db9 adapter... Playing Turrican with jump button :)

Just got this in and I´m super excited to finally be able to play Turrican very similarly to how I play Gunlord

How come adapters like these aren´t mass produced at amiga etailers? This really makes a difference.

That's a very good point! If there was such an adapter that could make a fire button for jump AND turn a sega controller into a 2 fire button controller I'd have one!

Actually Turrican 1 and 2 jump mechanics are optimised for a stick. You can test it in WinUAE with a jump button. It doesn't work as good as you might think. Turrican 3 works perfectly though, designed as a console game.

Well, from my experience with the adapter today, I´m telling you the jump mechanics work really great with a button I´ve recently played all 3 Amiga Turricans through using up to jump so I´m quite used to it really... and I still feel like button to jump is a definite improvement.

As for WinUAE, maybe you´re experiencing some kind of minor control lag? I don´t really use emulators.

Nope, it's not the input lag in emulators. You can see it clearly in your video clip with Turrican 2. There is a delayed and long jump after you've pressed your jump button. Exactly as it fits the steering of a joystick lever to achieve an up and right direction. Amiga/console games with a native designed extra jump button are mostly smoother and more responsive/faster.

That said some Amiga games indeed benefits from an extra jump button due to different jump mechanics.

It can either make a long jump if I keep pressing the button for long or it will make a little jump if I press it a little. If there is any delay, I think I´m not sensitive to it and to me it feels like using the button to jump is an improvement.

However, I have slowed down footage of both the high jump and a little jump (you can make various kinds of in-between jumps too), I´ll let others be the judge.

Sometimes I wish I had a high speed camera
