Fastlane Z3 red screen

Hi:
i installed a couple of minutes ago a used fastlane z3 that i bought through ebay.

I installed the card on a free zorro slot on my A3000(buster 11) and booted afterwards into the early startup menu. I got a red screen with a line showing product 10 manufacturer 8512 defective and only line same producto/manufacturer ok. Strange thing.

After that i changed the config pins and installed what i think are 4 x 1mb 32 pin simm. Now the card is not recognized anymore.

Any ideas?

Best Regards

Rod

have you tried without any memory at all installed?

what version is the card ? version 2.4 can only read 2,4 and 8MB 32pin dim modules (upto 256MB total) where as lesser versions (as long as the firmware has not been updated (and a few chips replaced) can only read 1,2 and 4MB dims (upto 64MB total).

configuring the ram speed is also critical, you may need to check what speed the ram is set at (jumper header at bottom right of the card) denoted 60ns 70 and 80ns.. please check your ram timmings, some ram can run faster, but some cannot... and if we are dealing with ancient 1MB dims best to double check.

Banks on the Z3's are in interleved in groups of 4 so in each group must be of the same ram type.. if you only use half a bank you cannot allocate memory within another group above it.. starting from the bottom (connecting edge of the card) upwards is group 1 = slot 1 (bottom left) slot 2 ( bottom right) slot 3 (next up left) and slot4 (next up right).

configuring homuch ram you have is apain on Z3's but from you post above i beleive you found the jumper header..

I would take the opportunity to mention it might be a good idea to examin the card carefully to see if theres any shorting or tracks that may have become worn... doulbe check the slot too, and try it in a differnet one... as i am sure you are aware the Z3 fastlane will only work on a Z3 port (not sure of the configurations on the A3000)

best of luck rod.

Question Old post...

Hi Folks:
i know this is an old post but my fastlane is now fully populated with 16 4MB Simms.

I tested the board with config 5 (as stated on the manual) on A4000 but i still get the same red screen. The s/n number starts with 30xxxxx. Any ideas before i send the board to Amiga Center?

Best Regards

Rod
