New floppy labels for commercial titles

I've been thinking that I'd like to have some floppy labels for my old games and apps that are not hard-disk installable. ideally these would be full colour, glossy and have images and logos that match the box art for the game.

Does anything like this exist currently? If not, I could probably create some although it would take time. Would I be able to share these if I made them without getting into trouble? I do have a flare for graphic design.

Although.. I think I want to improve on the originals. I'm looking at my Batman the Movie floppies and they pale in comparison to the likes of Zool 2, for example.

you must look in HOL most of the games have diskscans there

ie for batman there are 4 different disks

http://hol.abime.net/57/diskscan

use a good printer like an epson with durabrite inks then you will have something similar to originals

Well, I've ordered sheets of A4 labels that will need to be cut out as I couldn't find what I wanted without paying way more than I wanted.

These guys are based in the UK and 20 sheets (which will yield 120 labels) cost me about 4 euro, so 3.something GBP.

Next, I'm going to take images (some that have been linked here already, thanks kriz, Sandro, s2325) and make a few of my own and insert them into a template. But as funds are uncertain at the moment, rather than blasting my way through several ink cartridges, I'm going to use the Gimp editors edge detect filter to basically give me an outline of the image that I will colour in myself with colouring pencils. I've been looking forward to an art project

I've made a template that prints to exactly the right size (attached in case anyone is interested) with images just thrown in, not yet adjusted correctly to suit the label. But I've also added the 'GIMP'd' version which has the colour and filling removed so you can give the kids something to do when they get home from school

That was more difficult than I thought But, for a first attempt it's not too bad.

First off, I think marker just ruins it, as happened with the very 'leaky' black in Flashback. The greens were done with colouring pencils and the orange was done with markers that are nearly finished. They didn't spread so much.

I completely messed up Lotus with the wrong colours, rushing it too much etc.

So on my next attempt, I'm going to have the black printed by the printer, and do the other colours myself using the pencils and see how it goes.

I came across a print company with extremely good rates for colour prints. So I spent some time doing up nice labels and sent them to the printers along with the A4 adhesives I bought. They came out very nicely - see attached. Picture quality isn't great. I also learned (again) that they tend to come out darker on the printers CMYK machines.

I put the original vs new Batman ones side-by-side for comparison but I won't be using these on any original disks. A nice addition I only thought to use for some of them was to continue the motif up to the thin area of the disk base that's visible from within the floppy disk storage box (see Turrican II, Lemmings & Robocod).

Edit: I might have been wasting my time making a Batman label since it doesn't seem to run on a 1200. If anyone knows of a version that does work, I'd love to find out about it.

I'm pretty sure Batman Returns works on the A1200.

Sandro.. I don't BELIEVE that you were able to find that - thank you so much!! I really didn't think it would work

It's true, the floppies should be blue. I can't get new ones easily though. These are actually the 'backup' floppies but they will (IMHO) look way cooler than the originals. Next on my list is Soccer Kid, since my original floppies are corrupted.

I remember seeing an article on it in Amiga Format back in the nineties with an amazing screenshot with Batman saying "Do you wish to interrogate?". It looked like a very interactive game. But then the reviews were awful. But I guess it's time to try it for myself so I might check out a long-play on youtube. Thanks for the suggestion.

I think you really should watch longplay on YouTube to see how bad is Batman Returns. It's Amiga exclusive for a reason.

Right then I'll do that. I can only imagine what a great game it _could_ have been had they added the detective elements and some of the stronger points of the original game on the Amiga.

Anyway, I've updated my floppy with the adf Sandro linked to and it at least lets me play the first level before crashing, so better than nothing! Here are the floppy labels - pretty nice if I do say so myself
