Ishar on A600
Anyone tried Ishar (first one) on A600. I couldn't get past the language selection screen using KG pack WHDload version. I eventually figured out I had to press a numeric keypad number to select a language using winUAE. Thing is, I am 99.999% certain that I played this from floppy on an A600 way back when, so, how did I do it? 'Course, the certainty that I retained my sanity in the intervening years is slightly less.

Is it called 'Ishar-LegendOfTheFortress' ?
Edit: It's a 2 disk game which only supports one drive. Works OK in WinUAE with default A600 config. Last edited by Arnie; 06 January 2012 at 07:24. |

Edit: sorry Arnie, didn't notice you had updated your post. Yep, I get it working on UAE no problem with configuration as close as possible to my real A600. Except, the PC has a numeric keypad, required to select the language. All the keypad controls in game have a mouse equivalant.
So, after much pissing about with assorted TOSEC floppy versions I can report the following. Kpatch keypad emulator from aminet can be used to pass the language screen. Unlike the other numpad emulator on aminet, this continues to work after the Ishar program has started. It can also survive a reset using the -r switch so can be used to reboot from a floppy. It does not operate with WHDLoad. For some reason, I couldn't get any floppy versions to work properly from the HD. Sometimes certain sounds don't play, sometimes some graphics corruption, sometimes it hangs so bad a power cycle is required, sometimes the floppy drive goes into a massive fit. Some of this may be due to ACA630 as I needed NOCACHE to get the WHDLoad version working. I tried the CPU -nocache command, but it didn't seem to help. I lost track of which versions and which tweaks failed how so I gave up. Best I could do was running from floppy. This version seemed to work ok, though I didn't test very far, that hard looking dude on the bridge near the start is every bit as hard as he looks Ishar - Legend of the Fortress (1992)(Silmarils)(M4)[cr TKK](Disk 1 of 2).adf Ishar - Legend of the Fortress (1992)(Silmarils)(M4)[cr TKK](Disk 2 of 2).adf I do like to play on the original machines but I am NOT nostalgic for floppy discs. I reckon I will give the Ishar games a go on WinUAE using the enhanced AGA versions to make up for this defeat |

I have recently acquired Ishar 1 in floppy, the box says Amiga 600 compatible. I think these floppies should be dumped and send to some WHDLoad guy perhaps?

Is this the 1st person "dungeon crawler" (in quotes because its often outside) RPG game?
While not a big fan of the genre at the time (not to say I disliked the genre either) I did get into this one a bit. Great graphics and presentation, although I seem to recall at the expense of heavy loading. Probably would have delved even deeper if I'd had a hard drive at the time. Its going on my list of games to revisit |

However, note to Jimbob, this game in ECS version needs "no cache" if you use an accelerator card. |

I got the cable today. I just need to setup Amiga Explorer now. I have got an old WIN95 PC with serial port setup for the transfer to and from my Amiga 2000. I am in the final stages of getting it to work. But now, house cleaning and stuff! I might do the transfer tonight :-)

Ok, got the images, i'm patching currently the on-disk protection.
However, i need the Disk B in standard regular ADF, can you make an image with DIC ? EDIT : Disk A is now deprotected, only the byte interpreter manual protection stands (the codes are easy to find on the net). Since Jimbob use an ACA630, he must open a CLI window, then type this : set nocache followed by return (it desactivates the CPU cache) set original (it activates the original chipset mode) With both those, the game will run under ACA630. Oh and then, type on the CLI : t.x follow by return. Since both disks are named 'empty' the game works without any assign. Last edited by dlfrsilver; 18 October 2015 at 19:09. |
