A little observation. Just swapped my a3640 with an Apollo4060 and are experiencing the nak timeouts with the old driver on this setup as well.

Is this hardware supported in AOS 4.1 FE Classic? I saw the x-surf was listed on hd zone but I read also about it being unstable and unclear which driver to use.
Rapidroad is not listed, or is it never the less supported, preferably with the out of the box usb stack and not the AOS3.x Poseidon stack. |

Was there any conclusion to this?
First I got a weirdo device error "failed hardware failed self-test (-7)" when trying to online it in Trident. If I run xsurftest then I get the "nak timeout" error instead in Trident, and now my network dies: I can ping my own IP, but not my gateway. xsurftest looks for an 8019 and complains about "No IRQ received". A4000 CS060 MK1, CV64/3D, 3.9. Last edited by NorthWay; 31 July 2017 at 01:07. Reason: update |

Hmm, just discovered this thread, I will have to have a read.
I put a RR in my A1200 back in May. It is running a 50Mhz ACA1233. I noticed it seemed "a little flaky" is as best I can put it, but I just put it down to the mixture of modern and old hardware. In the last month I've put it into a different A1200 and I now can't do anything with it. I'm getting constant NAK timeouts when using a wired network adapter and when I tried to read / write an XDCard with Amiga formatted partitions it also failed miserably. I haven't diagnosed yet as I've been working on my GBA machine. I'm interested to see if there are any updated files or drivers or anything (which is where the long read of the this comes in I guess). |

OK, after reading about 1/3rd of this entire thread I now realise that the main issue here is a different one to mine (supposedly) in that it is related to 040 accelerators and Z3 X-Surf versions. So my A1200 CP version should not be experiencing these NAK timeouts on the Asix ethernet adapter.
What I've learnt so far is that: - MUI needs to be v3.8 or less - MMU Lib is used by the driver if its present. Plenty of reports that it didn't help, but it won't hurt me to try it. - One person said a powered hub was helping - I am not convinced that will help me but I have one so I may as well try it. - That support is from the reseller SO, given I bought from Vesalia.de, I will try some of these things this evening and if my problem still persists I'll get in contact with them to see what they say. Given the purchase was late April however, I have my doubts on much of a response. Will teach me to not use it |

I also had the NAK issues with an ASIX Ethernet adapter in both an A1200 and A600 with RRs and never found a solution for it, except that I now use a PCMCIA Ethernet adapter which works..

I used to use PCMCIA Wireless ethernet but I moved all of my Amigas to an external building that doesn't have wireless. I may buy wireless for the building but I use Ubiquiti wireless kit and it's not particularly cheap. I also felt the wired USB solution was a lot neater.
I'm hoping to still find a solution. May I ask which flavour os OS you are / were using? 3.1 / 3.9 and more importantly if you have something like CWB on it? I have 3.1 but it does have AmiKit Real on it. I need to re-test but I'm 99% sure my issue isn't limited to the wired ethernet. I put the CF card from one of my other Amiga's into USB the other night via a card reader and I got all sorts of errors and issues. I have previously done that fine so I know that has worked in the past. I had limited time so didn't troubleshoot that one further and then the next time I was up there I forgot to take a USB stick with me. |

My 600 was running ClassicWB 3.1 and my 1200 was running WB 3.9 BB2. Initially my 600 had an ACA620 in it, but was later upgraded to a Vampire600 and is now also running WB 3.9, however there was no change in regards to the USB stability. I have also experienced a few hiccups with USB memory sticks where they would crash the machine and I had to reboot but they work ~95% of the time and after several years I don't really expect the software to become any better. I mainly use it to transfer files back and forth with USB sticks and I can do this while using the PCMCIA port for networking.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure when i first had this setup it worked fine. The USB is in a different 1200 now however as I didn't want to cannibalise my very minty 1200 when my kickstarter case arrived. They are different revisions so I might need to check if there are timing issues that may need to be considered. The current 1200 board is a 1D.4 - I'm not sure what the other one was but I know it's not a 1D.4. It's still open so I can check later.

Last night I tried everything I have seen suggested excepted the powered hub (I don't know where that is right now). I had good results initially but sure enough in the end the NAK timeouts came back. I could not determine anything specific I did. I made sure I was using a USB mouse so I could see immediately when it happened.
As Jens has made it clear he will not support those of us that bought through resellers directly I have just raised it with Vesalia.de and asked them to raise the issue on my behalf. I will see what kind of response I get from them, if any. The board worked very well without the ethernet adapter. I was able to mount the drive from my GBA1000 and transfer files etc., but the ethernet would be so much nicer. I have made it very clear that I want to buy another card for one of my other machines but since I would be doing that in order to make transferring options between the machines better then obviously I will only buy a 2nd if this 1st one can be made to work well. Since I'm an 030 user on an A1200 with an Individual Computers accelerator I'm quietly hopeful someone can do something for me to get it working. |

What worked for me was a small workaround. I start Trident manually. Before adding any USB devices I manually stop the Ethernet adapter.

I learned this the hard way, having to deal with a European reseller of Icomp to no avail. Now, when I buy Icomp products, I ONLY buy them directly from the icomp website. Then, Jens is forced to help. Even better, the products are usually a little cheaper there than from the resellers.

Well so far I cannot fault the experience. A few very fast responses (within an hour). Ultimately it looks like the issue is being forwarded. I won't comment publicly on every step of the exchange as I don't consider that to be the right thing to do, I just wanted to initially say that so far the support from Vesalia.de cannot be faulted and I currently have no regrets in dealing with them.
I have bought from Amigakit in the UK in the past and wanted to try the other vendors so I bought a FastATA from AmigaStore in Spain and the Rapid Road from Vesalia. I admit to not considering buying direct but will consider it in the future. Only by trying the different vendors can I determine who I prefer to deal with. |
