Aminet US Mirror Back Soon

Hello, everyone. I'm mailing a short list of people who had been mailing in asking about the status of the Aminet mirror.

At the current point, we've drug out what we had off of tape backup from the original Wuarchive, and are restoring it to the new machine right now. It'll probably take some time, and I do not have an ETA. You'll see it in it's usual location under FTP (/pub/aminet) when it's complete.

Go ahead and notify your community links that it will be coming back up, and also whomever runs the mirrors from Wuarchive that they ought to start working again.

Don't hesitate to email me directly for any additional configuration-type issues the community may have.

Nice to know that they had some kind of backup, however I wonder how much of the recent files may have been lost

us.aminet.net is back online

The main Aminet site is now back online at Washington University

Some features are not available yet and the latest files are dated November 2003.
I'm not sure whether it is still being restored from incremental backups or the one year old backup is all they could recover, but it's a start.

Please don't spam the Aminet maintainers with complaints, they've been notified already.

If anything, please send an email to archiver(at)wuarchive.wustl.edu to thank the UW staff for restoring the Aminet directory as it shows how many people appreciate their efforts.

Yay. Saw it the other day down and it made me worry. Oh well, at least it's back up now.
