Playing without joystick using keyboard

Hello friends, just an easy question: Is possible to play any game with whdload using for example the cursor keys as joystick? I'm talking about a real amiga, no emulation. The reason i'm asking this is because some time ago i bought a second a1200 mobo and that was without the "mouse" port. At the moment i'm using a utility called setmport to map mouse to the joy port and can't connect a joystick because i have no ports left. I know i can shut the amiga off and unplug and plug joy/mouse but this is a hassle, and since i don't mind using the keyboard for games i'm asking if it is possible. On aminet i have found utilities to do the opposite(mapping keys to joy on wb games), but i'm asking for substituting completely the joystick for the cursor keys for example.

As an alternative, there are some hardware mouse/joystick adapters which can do the switching for you without unplugging. Sometimes available on ebay quite cheaply.

Not sure if it is safe to use the switch while the amiga is on though, which would defeat your purpose....

As for the software switch, I suppose that could be handy just like winuae, and a few games play easier on keyboard

Yeah, could be interesting a software switch as you says Calgor, without the need of a hardware (and risky to it with system on) switch.
Also some games are just more playable with keyboard than on joysticks.

Why not just add the port back in. You can do it for about $2 in parts (or find someone with a dead A1200 to sell you the piece).

You were a lucky man!!. Connecting and discopnnecting peripherals while the Amiga is on is very risky!!! You can end with a burned chip (cia, for example).

Short answer to this is no - every single game would need to be patched to allow keyboard controls. And in multiload games you might have to patch every different section of the game. That's a hell of a lot of work.

So everything is possible, but much more time is needed. I want add to games pached by me keyboard handler. Now keyboard is supported in EmeraldMine (2 players both) and Nibby Nibble. In these games also keyboard is fully configurated, thats mean you can choose keys used in game. Ofcoz you can use keyboard in The Lost Vikings but isn't perfect. Generally adding keyboard to every game isn't easy and requaired much more time.

Looks like the only alternative is winuae.... or getting a megadrive pad for commodity gaming.
