We already have some open-sourced Amiga software, like Directory Opus 5, AMOS - and somehow not much came out of these projects.

Really? Having native Directory Opus Magellan on AROS for various architectures is "not much" for you? I have personally very much enjoyed having access to the sources. AMOS I do not care one bit about though.

Regarding p96, and RTG on Amiga in general... strangely enough, after years and years with RTG, I now prefer native modes. Also, I no longer care about "bling-bling" like Birdie, Visual Prefs etc. no longer trying to use Amiga for what is not suited for, and rather use it for what it is really good at - simpler is better.

I have tried this new Opus 5 - it was unstable and produced visual artefacts in listers; if I remember correctly, I had also some problems with icons on the desktop.

I have checked the project once again - the last commit to the repository was around 3 years ago, several bug reports with the last time any of them got closed was in 2015, the forum seems dead, and the official project web page currently shows photo of boobs, surrounded by some Chinese (?) text.

"not much" useful results, if you ask me...

FWIW: I recently cloned the SourceForge repository into Github and made Dopus5 compile with Bebbo's toolchain: https://github.com/mheyer32/dopus5allamigas
Everybody is invited to enhance & bugfix :-)

Ah, you're one of those who think open source means that developers will work on code for free, for YOUR benefit. Sorry, that's not how it works

Open source is for the benefit for those who want to do something with code for their own benefit, not for the ones feeling entitled to not pay for any development.

You are using this webpage? guess what the server is running on... probably 99% of all webservers are running some open source software. Your browser is probably open source too.

You are surrounded by countless open source software projects that make our modern life work. It is by far the most successful strategy.

Open source does NOT mean, nobody pays for the development - I earn good money.

Picasso96API.library, emulation.library, rtg.library and anything else.

Thanks! No, I just wanted to know the library versions, mainly to see if the rtg.library was updated since ThoR's v40.4029. Btw, the new Picasso96API.library is also included in the developer SDK archive.

Well I bought it to support further development and to use it with my coming Vampire card and my Voodoo 5500 in my Mediatored A4000. It's great that all this grey area of licensing rights have finally been solved. At least that how it looks to me.

Open-source is not an option, as neither I, nor the original authors believe that this makes sense (see other projects mentioned in this thread: Starting with a certain complexity, it goes beyond what people can do in their spare time).

It's cannot be open sourced because it contains disassembled AmigaOS code. Simple as that.
