can't open generic

Hi I have a problem installing cwb in winuae I insert the WB 3.1 disk as instructed and all seems to be going well then I get this error Can't open generic for input - object not found. I am pretty sure it's something simple i'm doing wrong just can't work it out. I've installed most of the preconfigured systems out there and got them to work in the end it's just this has thrown me. Any help please.

Should be quite obvious: if a file cannot be found, then it has been deleted. Try again with a new copy of the original unmanipulated Workbench disk.

Generic is the name of a printer driver which should be in Devs/Printers.

Just as Thomas said; there is a misplaced or missing file from your Workbench set.

I'm sure I set "Failat 21" in the install script, so it should continue regardless even though you won't have a 100% complete Workbench install.

Does it just stop installing due to the missing file? If so I'll have to fix that!

Well, it is a non-essential file so AmigaSYS might not use it. Plus, Dary's install script is much better than mine! It might also skip files that are missing, which mine obviously doesn't it seems!

Bloodwich is there anyway to tell if the adf is corrupt or has any files missing?.

Well, people moving around printer drivers is quite common on Workbench disks.

I based my install script on the untouched original 3.0 and 3.1 disk sets, so if it fails then the disk has been altered in some way. You can still install the ClassicWB by answering no to a complete 3.1 upgrade - then it will only ask for a single 3.0 or 3.1 Workbench disk rather than the complete set.

Yeah I tried that and it's still the same. @Thomas I've made my own config and there is only epsom in my devs printers folder so I guess generic has gone missing

You should always keep the original disks in a closet and only work with backups.

Just copy the files back onto the disk - or make some dummy files with the same names so the install script thinks they are there instead of dumping you out to CLI.

I'd fix the issue so the script isn't so strict, but I only have access to the ClassicWB files when I'm at home.

Good news got it all up and running with a clean set of ADF'S. Thanks guys for you're help. Just one thing, I tried to post this reply using Aweb from within CWB but it kept asking me to login even though I was, any ideas?. Anyway off to play with CWB and thanks again for you're help.

Nice one!

AWeb isn't the most complete Amiga browser, but it is free. I only include the last none beta - newer versions are available but the Amiga isn't the best at web surfing compatibility regardless.

Make sure cookies are being accepted as that would be a prime suspect - and you may want to change some of the default settings (like right click menu support, requester settings etc). I didn't change any defaults from the normal AWeb install, apart from making sure images were being stored correctly in fastram instead of chip, so it may need a lot of refining.

I'll have a play around with it and see how I get on.
