Erm sorry to sa but this is definately the Wrong Place to post Atari things. Even if its interesting from a technical point of view but i doubt that many of the people here can put that knowledge to any good use.

I really can't see any problem with threads of this kind.
If nobody is interested, then no-one will view it. However, this thread's already had 46 views. |

I don't have a problem with this thread in general but i guess in an Atari Forum it would be better suited.

RGB monitors such as the 1084 are much crisper than similar sized TVs and allow you to tweak the screen size and position. Also using a larger modern TV might not be practical if you set up the ST on a desk.
Good work Anemos, many of us have 1084s and some of us have Atari STs hidden away... not me... well... only two... but don't tell anyone... |

Nice pics Anemos!
I dont see any problem with this thread being here; the Amiga vs Atari ST wars are long over, and besides, the hardware has been cheap enough for a long time for folks to own both machines (*) I find the folks over on Atari Forum http://www.atari-forum.com to be a quite friendly bunch... you could share your link with them too? (*) When I was a boy, I remember Atari ST's and Amiga were 400 quid each! YAARRRRR. |

i'm seriously interested in obtaining a monitor, if this somehow corrects screen flickering caused by games in pal mode.

I already have made thread in the Atari-forum. Simply I thought that perhaps they is interest and here, after it concerns Commodore monitor. |

it is good that Anemos post this info here, I cannot understand WHY would anyone objects to that!
Today, in 2008, most people lurking here have more than one machine make, this kind of info is always welcome! |

No, it's not a dumb question. If you are happy with the Atari's sound and display on your TV, then there is no benefit to be had with the monitor alternative. If your TV is connected to the 1040ST's RF modulated output (assuming it has one), then there is a good chance you will get better definition from a monitor. If, however, you have your TV connected via an RGB-SCART cable to the 1040ST's monitor output, then there may be little to gain. The Commodore 1084S monitor, like the Atari SC1435, also provides audio output in stereo, so, like the TV, it's an all-in-one solution. FYI (from the respective handbooks): Atari SC1435 14-inch monitor display resolution is 640 x 200 pixels, character resolution is 2000 (80 x 25 rows), raster frequency is 50Hz (220-240VAC) or 60Hz (120VAC) and stereo audio output is 1 watt, 5% distortion. Amiga 1084S 14-inch (13-inch viewing area) monitor display resolution is 640 x 256 pixels or 640 x 512 (interlaced), character resolution is 2000 (80 x 25 rows), raster frequency is 50Hz (220-240VAC) and stereo audio output is 1 watt RMS per channel, 5% distortion. Quote:
The Atari display is "for use with all Atari ST, STE and other Atari PC compatible computers". Note that I am not recommending either of these monitors as best suited for use with your 1040ST; these are the only ones I have user manuals for. Good luck, whatever you decide.
