What a price tag!

I was expecting it to land around €1500 for a delivered and ready to use system, but now it looks more like €2500. A lot of people who have been saving up will be stumped by this.

I hope they get some sales to keep going though.

do you have to buy your own gfx and sound card on top?

sure, they put alot of developement into it but i dont think its worth it to be honest.

Well, it answers the question as to who this machine is for....
It's for the small group of people who love AmigaOS4 and are willing and able to spend quite a bit for their machines...

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that..
It's a valid user base...

It might make more sense to say something like, "You know, we could sell 100 machines to people who will pay around $3000 (with addons and software, etc..)." than to say "I think we could sell 1000 machines at $1500 each..."

I think they picked a much safer target audience...

Selling hardware nowadays is tricky.. In order to compete in a cost effective way, you need a large run to keep the price down, but I don't think the Amiga market has that..

You have lots of people who like the old machines...
But, even if you made a machine that sold for $1000, many of them will say "it's not 68k, so I'm not interested"....

To be fair, even if the X1000 sold for $500, I probably wouldn't get one...
I'd rather spend $500 on my older machines..

I haven't spent more than that on anything new recently.
Wife's laptop was $400 ish.. She loves that, and I got her old one. ;-)
True, I spent about $1000 on my main PC when I got it, but that was ages ago (hint, it's an AMD1800)... I don't see myself spending anywhere near that on ANY PC anymore..

It's a tough market nowadays...

More than ever, you need to make your money on software, and that means making your software run on cheap hardware...

Would I spend $100 on a new AmigaOS that ran on Intel (or ARM, as those are pretty cheap and look to be supported for a long time)...

Hmm.. That's a distinct possibility...
(Especially if it ran on my AMD1800, as I don't use that much anymore.. ;-)

That price is obscene and rediculous. Knock at least £1000 off and I'd buy one

I'm almost certain there will be someone out there with more money than sense to buy one at £1699 though.

I like the idea of a modern Amiga, been using PCs and Mac for day to day stuff since I sold my first A500. Back in 1991 I reluctantly sold my A500 to buy an overpriced PC, makes me sad when I think back;

Intel 486DX33
8Mb RAM
250Mb Hard Drive
Tsenglabs ET4000 1Mb Video
Soundblaster Pro
14" Multisync SVGA Monitor
5.25" and 3.5" Floppy (CDROM was a later upgrade)

$AUD 3,000 (£1,350 - back in 1991, £1,945 today)

I must say the pricing is as mentioned pretty obscene for what you get! I hope that AmigaKit don't go down the pan with this overpriced boys toy. I know I have had a few bitching sessions about Amiga type licences and the likes with AmigaKit but they are a bloody good company and I would hate to see them lose out with OTT pricing like this, I assume and hope that they just order as required on items such as this.

Personally, I will stick to buying duff laptops of fleabay for £10-£30 and swap out screens, inverters or power connectors or even just clean the fan out and replace the thermal paste, they do everything I require and keep me entertained for very little money and are great for trying different operating systems out.

Yeah, computer stuff back then was a lot of money - mainly because of the userbase... much like OS4x is now (i.e. small). Nowadays the PC market is so huge they cost ten a penny for a mid spec system.
The Amiga netbook looks very interesting... that's something that floats the boat

X1000 prices must drop after the Netbook Amiga announcement. We need a price that is cheaper than $2000 to even start considering about buying one.

If the netbook gets released next year, then I think it's bye bye X1000, buy buy netbook.

I had a chance to use one at AmiWest yesterday.

Bear in mind the last Amiga machine I used was an A500+030 it was one of the best user experiences I've had in a while, only wish my Mac was as snappy; happy Amiga re-user! I think to look at it for the potential of what can be done with a 2nd core and with Xena/XMOS is incomparable to the netbook, they are aimed at totally different users and it's a shame that production is so expensive unless made in the 1000s.

I'm wondering if it's possible to do custom chip emulation in Xena for classic app compatibility and also UAE with a PPC JIT for games, is this even useful for modern Amiga users; I don't know? Since those chips are also available as PCI Express cards, perhaps combined with a Thunderbolt adapter the same could be done for my Mac. That would be kinda cool, for me at least! :/

rlake: The difference between using an XMOS card in a PC annd an X1000 is that XMOS card has direct connection to the CPU on the X1000. I guess Amiga custom chips emulation can be done using XENA.
