I could use something else than KS1.2 in my lowest slot - that KS1.3 with IDE support would be very nice to try out.

When using a DIP-switch

You need to be able to swap the signal between a 1 (5V) and 0 (GND) with only one circuit breaker that has two poles - you can either have it open (OFF) or closed (ON).

This is done by connecting a resistor from the 5V line and the other end of the resistor to one of the two poles of the the DIP-switch (there are usually more than two poles on a DIP-switch as they usually come packed as 2, 4, 8 in a single package) but this is for one of those switches.

You connect your signal that you want to control on that same leg on the DIP-switch as the resistor is attached to - you have now connected it to 1 (high, 5V) through a current limiting resistor.

The other pin on the DIP-switch is connected to GND so when you close the DIP-switch (circuit breaker) you tie GND to your signal and a small current starts flowing through the resistor from the 5V to GND. The resistor prevents a short circuit that could blow fuses, circuit board traces or other such things.

The Voltage where your signal is picked up is now 0 - voltage drops from 5V to 0V over the resistor.

You get a current of 0,5 mA if you use a 10kOhm resistor, that's what I usually use - a larger resistor for less current (loss) is probably possible, you can adjust it to how much current the eprom needs at the most on it's input. More kOhm means less current.

Inputs are usually high impedance (resistance) though so even these old circuits won't need much current I think we're talking about µA (mikro A) here...

If you want to know exactly you have to check the datasheets of the exact manufacturer that made the exact circuit that you have - which is usually easy to find with Google.

This is the type of circuit I used:
http://www.chipsinfo.com/STMicroelec...7C160-50F1.htm
This is a good site.

In this we can read that in Read Mode (that's how we use it)
Input Leakage Current is Max +-1 µA ...

So - I'm guessing - if we use this circuit and less than 5M Ohm that should work. Just try it, 1M Ohm could be OK, drawing only 5µA instead when set to 0.

mfilos edited ascii-picture:

Code:
[ DIP Pin1 ]--------+---[10k]-----[ +5V ]
                     |
                     +-------------[ 27C800 Kickstart's Pin1 (signal for switching) ]

[ DIP Pin2 ]----------------------[ GND ]
Open (OFF): Signal 1 (upper memory area)

5V ----[10k]----- Signal____/ ___GND

Closed (ON): Signal 0 (lower memory area)

5V ----[10k]------Signal------- GND

When using a larger circuit you connect the other addresspins the same way and can swap every signal individually.

You could add a circuit to swap kickstarts automatically upon reset or similar, just connect the control signal of your choice and use a toggle-circuit that changes the output between 0 and 1.

In my NES I installed a circuit that reads the controller and resets the NES on a certain key combination, you could do all sorts of things - like adding diodes that lights up when you move joystick in a certain direction and so on and so on - digital electronics is wonderful.

I use the same type of bank switching in my Fairchild Channel F Multi-Cart - but the latching (that's what setting the addresspins is called) is done by a circuit that's loaded with a value from the databus.

It is... I can't understand what the benefit would be to keep both an 2.05 and a 3.1 though
If you can put an 3.1, then 2.05 is obsolete imho.

I use it to boot a different OS.

I have a quad kickstart installed but, I'm scratching my head as to how to switch all 4 with one switch.

Use an octal switch such as the ones in external SCSI enclosures.

Hi Jope,

What's an 'octal switch' ?

It's a multi position switch that outputs the numbers 0-7 in binary.

Some are rotary (twist to select), and some have + and - buttons and a window where you can see what number it's set to.

I don't think I ever got hold of that 1.3 with A600 IDE support, I remember looking and reading the description but I didn't manage to do as it was described.

I have original 1.3, 2.x and also 3.1 Kickstarts in my computers, I don't think it would be immoral if... <snip - prowler>

Maybe not immoral, but you're breaking the EAB rules by actively pursuing such things.

I noticed, sorry for not remembering or refreshing on the rules every now and then. I'll just leave the Amiga in the closet.

However, links to patch it myself is still allowed, are there any working ones? I found one and you have to get this program and to run that you need that program and then another, I gave up after the fourth link to a new needed software.
I have already dumped the roms I have on my possession several times I just need a way to fuse them. Pick that part from one, put it with the other.

I have a VP380 and I can tell you that you need no adapters. It supports 42 pin eeproms.
