Commodore 1200 Games help
Hello all I'm very new to this so I might sound a lil dumb but if i don't ask i wont learn, is it possible for me to get a game file and take my pc and an external floppy disk drive and write in a way so my Amiga will recognize and read the disk correctly.

Are you tied to playing from floppy disk? I only ask as you said you are new to this and with an a1200 a CF hard drive and adapter is relatively cheap and easy way to go, and many PCs have a card reader that will read the CF card and allow you to set it up.
http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/...oducts_id=1216 Even if you have no extra ram or accelerator you can copy over a store of adfs and write them to floppy on your amiga to boot directly from them. |

Thanks for getting back to I Don't mind its more on nostalgia I have not used a floppy disk in about 16 years, funny enough I have actually ordered one of them I wish I had gone to that website as cf card is easier to access, I don't yet have an accelerator card as I would like to play with it almost as is until I see how in to my lovely Commodore I am, what is adfs and do I yet need to purchase kickstarte 3.1 chips ?

Adf s are images of floppy disks. Equivalent to iso files.
If you have ordered a cf card for your a1200 I assume it's one of the eBay jobbies that come with a whdload archive of games and probably classic workbench? Whdload allows all the games to be installed and run from the hard drive, and patches a few things along the way. It also requires a little more memory so not all games will work without extra ram. If you haven't browsed over to amibay as well then take a look, I browse both there and here regularly. There is a useful accelerator guide thread over there. Sent from my S7 Edge |

Other things to think about or Google are getting your a1200 recapped, considering how or what you are going to display it on, and extra ram or an accelerator. But I would steer clear of ebay for any of that.

Also check out fitzsteves guide to setting up a cf card either on here or amibay. If you set up cwb it comes with the adf software.

Am no expert but there are lots of those floating around here - so ask away. Just be warned its easy to get carried away!
I started with an a1200 to try and relive my youth, then got one of those ebay cards before I knew any better, then quickly realised I wanted some extra ram to play the whdload games, then almost immediately decided I actually wanted an accelerator so traded up to a Blizzard 1230 MkIV then.....well, see my signature for where I got to. (many of my noob adventures are detailed on my blog on Amibay) As I said - I lurk around both EAB and Amibay regularly and find them both helpful in different ways - make sure you read the rules on Amibay.... |
