FBlit

Hi,

I've got a 3.1.4 kickstart 1200 with 32 MB fast ram. I installed the FBlit library in LIBS:, the FBLitGUI in prefs (seems the right place) and FBlit itself in C:

When I start the FBlitGUI, my amiga throws an error 8000000xx with the option "suspend or reboot". Anyone have a clue what goes wrong here?

Thanks!

No prefs, only defaults?

You should of course not use that ugly hack named FBlit, and instead buy P96 and use the "Native" monitor driver from Aminet.

If you feel rebellious and want to continue to use FBlit, you can move it to DEVS:Monitors (yeah!) and tweak settings to best fit your system. Many replace icon.library with IconLib 46.4 (.513) from Aminet, which comes with fblit prefs for OS 3.0/3.1 and 3.9/3.1.4.

Not that I've got my wimodem232 sorted out for my A2000 (ECS, '030, 15MB RAM). I am reminded of one of the disadvantages of using terminal software with 8 colors or more-- Bitplane flickering.

Would fblit help with that? Never knew there would be any reason to install P96 on a non-RTG system or about this Native mode. Sounds interesting.

Of course, scrolling is fast and smooth if I'm using 4 colors or less but that's no fun.

My AGA machines do not have this problem. I do not know the specifics but I'm sure it has something to do with improved bitplane management.

Wait a minute....maybe I just needed to try another terminal program? JrComm was my first test (I really wanted to go for the nostalgia factor). NComm does much better in 8 colors. No bitplane flickering at all!

So, I suppose this can come down to better programming. I will be testing out TERM also. While a very complete package, I always found it to be a bit heavy feeling.

Still interested in this Picasso96 native mode. Would it still benefit me? I do only have 1MB CHIP in my A2000. Plenty of FAST RAM to spare.

This is the setup im using Apart from p96...on my A600 Furia 020/33/fpu 9.5meg fast.

Fblit and Ftext work great with os.3.1.4...gives me 1.8meg chip...6.5 meg fast with shadowrom
