Amiga 500plus 2mb

Hi.. I just found a nice amiga 500plus that I coulnt resist from buying. It has 1mb chip, now I wonder how I can turn it into 2mb chip. If I use a normal A501 512mb then I got 1,5mb. Is there any expension cards with 1 mb? How common are they? I red somewhere about a A501 plus, if I add more ram via the trapdoor are they going to show up as chip or fastram? Or do I need to do any "hack" to to the mobo like on the A500?

Congrats on the purchase. Now open it up and check the battery. They leak and rot motherboards.

Thanks for the tip! So it has battery on the motherboard? I didnt know that because my A500 don't
I found a 1 MB ramcard Amiga 500 Plus, guess I need that for getting 2 mb But will it be chip or fast ram?
Another question, can I move a kickstart 3.1 from an Amiga 500 rev6a to an Amiga 500plus rev8a?

about kickstart, yes it should work in all A500, A600 and A2000. its the same ROM, some boards need modifications. (iirc A500+ doesn't.)

I think it would be chip ram, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

@heALer

The A500+ trapdoor port is limmited to an extra of 1MB of CHIP ram - thus giving you 2MB of CHIP total.

There are only a few (slow) FAST RAM boards that are compatible with the A500+, most are not. So the following is a compliation of boards that can provide 1MB of chip and some (slow) FAST RAM

A580
CP500 Plus / Vario 3
BaseBoard Plus 4

Now, while reviewing some of the above models I came across this interesting little number -

Name: Maximegs
Company: Memory and Storage Technology, Australia
Date: 1990
Amiga: A500
Interface: trapdoor slot
  • provides a total of 2.5 MB Chip RAM using bank-switching technique
  • works with 1 MB Fat Agnus and Kickstart 1.3 only
  • bank-switching is realized by software - blocks of memory can be switched between Chip and Fast RAM (or disabled) anytime, except for every vertical sync pulse
  • sixteen DIP sockets filled with 2 MB RAM
  • uses 256k×4 DIPs
  • the main board connects to the trapdoor slot
  • an adaptor board connects to Gary's socket
  • battery backed up clock

Anyone know how they bank-switched a 1MB Agnus to achieve 2.5MB chip?! or is it just poor data?

The 3.1 Kickstart that supports the (A500/A500+, A600, A2000) is identical across all the models.

What stops you from considering each block of 512K to use a simile, as a page from C64 days memory access?

6502 / C64 Page 0 = 0 - 255, Page 1 = 256 - 511 etc
