A scart cable enables your amiga RGB output to be connected to a TV with a scart connection. Scart is a standard connector most commonly used in Europe, if your TV does not have a scart connector on the back then the scart cable is useless.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCART You are better off buying something like this so you can use composite or S-video, no idea if your NTSC TV will do PAL though. [edit] Your amiga 1200 has a colour composite output so you can try that and see how you go on your tv, the s-video connector below will give you a much nicer picture though. http://www.amigamaniac.com/RGB_to_PAL_NTSC_adapter.html Alternatively you could buy an indivision 1200 if your TV has a standard VGA connection. http://www.jschoenfeld.com/news/news130_e.htm |

I don't recommend going the VGA route as its very unlikely your TV will sync down to 50hz vertical refresh via the VGA connector.
S-Video gives an acceptable picture, if you want to go this route THB's suggestion of trying the A1200 composite out is a good option. (To see if your TV does PAL). But for a great picture rather than a good one, you'll need to invest in an RGB to Component transcoder, which will enable you to use the RGB SCART cable. With RGB/Component, whether your TV supports PAL is not an issue as long as it will sync down to 50hz. |

Displaying a 50hz source on a screen running at 60hz is going to produce nothing but terrible results.
For interests sake, can this "feature" can be disabled? |

You can choose your output settings with the indivision config tool.

Thats good. Are the additional screen modes the Indivision provides of any use in your opinion?

How many colours can you have that running in with it still running at an acceptable speed?
