To REALLY keep up to date, you would have to get ALL the updates that came after SP1.
Try here, and here. Good luck!
I've only ~200 after-SP1 hotfixes, not counting those officially availabvle
And only found 2 buggy NET hotfixes to this day
I stand corrected - I keep my system up to date with the fixes that dont cause any problems according to M$

Most hotfixes are created to fix a specific problem... If I dont have a problem then I dont need the hotfix right? Just because I can isn't a good enough reason to waste my time fixing problems I dont have!

why do service packs come out then?
to install 99% of hotfixes you don't need?
no my dear rabbit80, hotfixes are to fix a specific problem that EXISTS with that software it is for, it doesn't mean you as a simple user has to know about the bug nor understand it.
just like patches are for games, hotfixes are for os's.

don't want it?
fine.
don't install it.
just be aware you'll eventually install it in the newest sp no matter if you want it or not.

and if you want, go check on the M$ download page for any not-yet-released hotfix and you will soon notice it says soon to be in SP2.
could it perhaps mean that the new/next Service Pack 2 will contain that hotfix?

From a typical M$ hotfix not distributed but will be included in a service pack in the future... (KB951937)

"A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix."

As stated - the hotfix is designed to fix a specific problem and is not recommended unless you are experiencing that problem. Its a waste of time and effort to seek out all hotfixes if they are not specific to my problem - ultimately these hotfixes are not fully tested and can (i have known them to) caues other issues. These hotfixes are also often superceded by newer hotfixes.

of course, those are the rules, a perfect company-to-user agreement...
wouldn't want to get into some trouble with law over a stupid untested hotfix, now would we?

it's just like with some pr0n sites you know, they have the selector box at the first page asking how old are you and simply ANYBODY can choose 18 years or more.
but THEY are clear and innocent

but hey, no sweat, you really got it all wrong friend, i'm not ordering you to install every single hotfix out there, i've only pointed you onto those sites so maybe you could find the right one

i install them all cause i'm a beta whore, probably it's just my luck that only 2 hotfixes out of those 200 caused a problem, but hey, for me a hotfix is something that is needed until it causes trouble

---=== EDITED ===---
The in-between-lines translation of the above document states: if you do not know what are you doing, don't sue us after you blew something with this hotfix, it was only tested on 1 M$'s computer and can destroy any other

I used to do that too - till my software kept screwing up. Now I wait till its official then I have an excuse to shout at somebody if it breaks anything!

yeah, in the before-sp1 era i've installed the beta nvidia drivers for my gf6600gt and it worked fine. until i've installed sp1 - it immediatly BSODed... surely SP1 was the guilty one? no, as a matter of fact no. it was nvidia's driver that was faulty... (what nvidia statet itself)

perhaps try start64.com or google and search for a movie playing proggie called "Media Player Classic" that has a nice feature to test tearing - just press ctrl + t
try playing the biggest (res) movie you've got (or download some free in hdtv) and turn this option on. if it will cause tearing, it's something with vista, if not... well

I miss the simplicity of my A500 No updates to worry about, No tearing, etc etc

Is there any way in which I can make my old A500 (which died years ago but I still have) into a USB keyboard and Mouse / Joystick ports and Floppy / power lights box? I know it would need a bit of soldering but I hate PC keyboards.. It would complete the retro feel for me and would confuse my friends

Imagine running Crysis on an A500

Awesome - that is exactly what I was looking for

Does it work in an A500 case?
