problem GVP techmagic 2060

I am trying to set up an A2000 with a Techmagic 060. The machine is a 6.2 version mobo. Currently I only have a buddha ide controller and a GVP spectrum board in it. I can't seem to get a stable system. I can't get more than 64 megs of ram after that the stability deteriorates dramatically. The machine will just randomly hang. I have tried 3 different power supplies, I have also tried a 4.5 revision mobo, but I have not had any luck. Last night the computer was booted u to aos39bb2 and spectrum screen. The screen blanker came on for the spectrum and the blanke was runnibg for a while, but again the computer froze. I can't seem to get things to work the way I think it should.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It does sound like a memory fault - not power fault - since you have tried several power supplies that for the most part concludes that.

I would suggest that we isolate everything to determin the fault.

just use the Techmagic no other card - remove the spectrum and the buddha - boot from the GVP 060 card.... do as much testing as you can - dumping stuff into fast ram from workbench - then once full - turn off and add more memory - keep going up in 16MB increments.

heres what amiga.resource.cx has to say about the memory on the TekMagic

Quote:
* memory four 72 pin SIMM sockets accept 128 MB RAM
* four 64 pin GVP SIMM sockets for backward compatibility
* the 72 pin sockets support 4, 8, 16 or 32 MB SIMMs, the GVP sockets support 4 or 16 MB SIMMs
* each 64 pin slot is linked directly to a 72 pin one - only one of them can be used at the same time
* cannot mix 4 or 16 MB GVP SIMMs
* cannot mix single or double sided 72 pin SIMMs
* a double sided 72 pin SIMM rules out two GVP SIMM sockets
* supports burst RAM access when SIMMs are installed in pairs
* selectable RAM access speed 60-80 ns
From this information how-is your memory organized?

i.e have you got GVP SIMM's and regular PS/2 SIMMS together ? or a Mixed ammount?

I am using 32 meg double sided 72 pin simms. I have 8 simms and have tried a number of different combinations. I still have to do the copy a lot of crap to ram: test yet.

Try to lower the access speed to 80ns, even if you are using 60ns SIMM sticks. Might help on this problematic card.

I have cut down to just os3.1 and a scsi drive on the tekscsi. With 128 meg and so far the copy a crap load to ram disk has worked well. I did select for slower ram via jumper as well noticed there was no jumer on the rom select where the default was on pins and 2. When you intall os3.9, does it install its own version of the 68040.library and 68060.library and if so, could there be som compatibility problems with the os3.9 version that the original from the tekmagic install disk works better? When I have done the install, I started with the 3.1 install, then did the tekmagic install, then did the 3.9 install and the 2 boingbags, but I never re installed the tekmagic install after the 3.9 os.
Thanks

this may well be an 060 library fault?

did you re-install these as a matter of course with the 3.1 install ?

Its quite likely that if you didn't do this with the 3.9os install then I am sure that issues / prolems and guru's will arise.
