I've kind of given up on the idea of using CDXL for anything other than pick-a-path type adventures (Plumbers Don't Wear Ties etc), it's a bit tricky to work with by it's nature. What I might do instead is, say, break up the animations from the game into a series of chunks (say, files with 2-3 seconds of footage), buffer as many as will fit into memory and keep loading them as the game plays - hoping that the level will finish before the buffers are exhausted, but if not just pause the action to refill the memory and keep going. But that's all far future stuff, AlarCity is the priority right now. |

Perhaps take a look at The Final Gate CD32 game code, that uses cdxl in a live action way, game is crap but the intention was there!

I think a better picture than Final Gate can be achieved, yeah I played it and like you say crap but you might be right, how did they do it.
How do I create a CDXL file? im sure ive done it before. Whats the best and most current way? or anyone be good enough to provide a clip for me to play about with. Also can I simulate the CD32 CD speed anthoner thing id like to try is just a sequence of Load 1.iff, Load 2.iff, Load 3.iff etc To be honest Some parts of Mad Dog are very static screens. |

To simulate CD32 speed just use XLSpeed of 150 with the CDGSXL player. |

Not sure why, but i thought uptill i tried it recently, that a CD32+FMV Card played Final Gate at full screen FMV. Sadly it was just small screen CDXL...

Over two years after originally posting this thread, Road Avenger is now in closed beta, and the public debut is on AmigaBill's channel this Tuesday.

FMV card is something I don't know where to start with, at the very least I'd be unable to test it properly at my end since my CD32 lacks that card. RTG might be another possibility but I'm not sure where to start with that either. |

OK! Nearly ready to launch. I'm uploading (hopefully, final) builds right this minute.
There's four versions, which are: OCS HDD Edition Recommended for A500/A600/A1000/A2000/A3000 with 500MB of HDD Space and 2MB of RAM. OCS CD/CD32 Edition Recommended for Standard CD32 or A500/A600/A1000/A2000/A3000 with 2X Speed CDROM and 2MB of RAM. AGA HDD Edition Recommended for A1200/A4000/Expanded CD32 (SX-32, TF etc) with 600MB of HDD Space. AGA CD Edition Recommended for A1200/A4000 with 4X Speed CDROM. Will not work on CD32. The AGA version is enhanced with HAM8 video, which improves the video quality a great deal, but we can't offer that for standard CD32s unfortunately (due to the increased bitrate). It should work just fine if you've got a hard drive or compact flash card in your CD32. I intend to launch in the next 24 hours or so if there's no breaking issues - possibly sooner if I get the A-OK on all platforms. Does anyone want to volunteer for a quick check of one or more of the builds on real hardware? |
