I haven't compared lately, but at least back then Airborne Ranger was better on C64 than on Amiga in my opinion...

Cybernoid, Cybernoid II, Power Drift, Bomb Jack
Simply almost everything from Hewson and Elite was better on C64 than on Amiga. |

Amazing, I had only expected a couple of games, and I was a little AFRAID off pissing some fellow Amiga users off only by making this thread, suggesting there is a very few games that amazingly are better on C64. After all it's an 8 bit 1 MHz 1982 computer. New games still comes out, Donkey Kong Jr. for example.

Buggy boy I enjoyed more on the 64, I did not like the side screen shift on the Amiga version. |

I've corrected my previous post now. Of course, I meant, I was AFRAID OFF piss someone off, I'am an Amiga user myself. Yes, Buggy Boy is an all time C64 classic in my view. I've played some Amiga AGA and CD32 games tonight myself, some of them added speech, and that's great, but many games seems the same on CD32, and that must have been a little disappointing for the purchasers of CD32 consoles.

I believe part of the reason for some C64 games having been better have been the development teams love towards C64 instead of Amiga, and hence they might have put much more effort in to C64 to make the C64 era to continue just that bit longer.
Also, it might be that where the business was big enough already, those bigger ones were able to figure out that there were more sales to be got from C64 than from Amiga version (at beginning of Amigas release), and hence they perhaps were more careful when picking the team that would make the C64 version than they were with Amiga version. But that is just my guess, not a fact. |

I think It has mostly with revenue and money to do. In the two first years, before A500, the Amiga was "expensive" and only maybe 200 000 units sold or something like that the first year. C64 sold more in one month. Millions of potential buyers of C64 versions out there, the C64 was important. By reading some interviews, I know that some companies like Lucasfilm art, put big efforts in making them work for C64 with all it's limitations, specially for the SCUMM engine, Zac Mc Cracken and Maniac Mansion, it was very difficult I think.

most coders knew more well the c64 because they work on it since 1982, like the amiga games goes better and better later. The fact too is that the c64 had a good hardware less impressive that the amiga but it had what needed to make good games with good playability, fast scrolls, good music, if you add the fact that coders had more skills with the c64 and with no doubt coders like challenges and making games as good as amiga or even better could have push them to the limits. After all, even some remakes of good old games for the ps2 were less good that original versions from 80's or early 90's.
Like the new shufflepuck cafe vs the old amiga/atari version !!! An other thing is that coders knew that they can't beat the amiga graphically, then they put everything on playability, on the amiga in an other way, it was a fight to have the most incredible gfxs or effects and sometime they forgot the playability, how much beautifull amiga games are unplayable or too hard ??? -> less enjoying even if really impressives. True, but i don't agree with Bomb Jack. The C64 version is very awful. Completely wrong dimensions for all sprites including Bomb Jack. The Amiga version is closer to the arcade.

The C64 version of Wizball is *way* more playable - and has a much better soundtrack.

I didn't really get on with the control of the Amiga version of Paper Boy compared to the C64 version, but maybe that's just me.

Don´t hit the little Nibbler ...
but Nibbler thinks "Batman - The Movie" is a little bit better on the C64 . The Music has something to it that the Amiga version dont have and its more of a Challenge on the C64. Just my humble opinion. |

Reading this thread makes me desire to take my C64 off the closet. Much more with the new devices that allow to load the games without the problems and drawbacks of the original tapes.

I remember Batman the movie. I played it to the end from tape, didn't had disk drive yet. It was good on the C64. Maybe the driving stage was cooler on Amiga? I also played it on arcade.

Chuckie Egg is better on the C64. Much more forgiving and fun, without the obscuring backgrounds. Although the music on the Amiga is kinda fun. Head Over Heels. The Amiga version lacks the atmosphere and especially the cool dittys that played when you changed screen. |

I was always disappointed with Giana Sisters on Amiga. The improvement (if any) over the c64 version is minimal.
Last Ninja impressed more on c64.. On Amiga it was just... meh.. Buggy boy maybe... Armalyte on C64 just looked cooler to me... Cybernoid dint look better but the absence of the absolutley awsome SID music ruins it. |

Glad I'm not the only one who prefers the C64 Paperboy. But which is worse, the C16 or Amiga version?
I didn't really get on with the Amiga version of Eliminator, the C64 version just feels so much smoother. |
