*UPDATE* v26 Compact flash crashes

I upgraded (formatted and replaced) my v24 to v26 by using a WB3.1 floppy with drivers for cf0 Now I have the same files for compact flash in the same places for the v26 installation as I had for the WB3.1 floppy, but I my cf-card does not show up on "desktop". Is there something special in v26 compared to v24/WB3.1?

I also get an error "Intuition is attempting to reset the workbench..." on every boot. Amy clues for this?

Btw, v26 looks awesome

Does the CF card show up on the Desktop when you boot from your WB3.1 floppy with the CF driver? It sounds to me like either the CF card or the CF-PCMCIA adapter is not pressed home fully or you have a bent pin or pins on those interfaces.

It works fine with WB31 floppy... Cannot be a hw issue That's why I'm so confused.

Does the CF card show up if you type "mount CF0:" in the shell?

If not, check your startup-sequence and CF0 carefully for typos.

That did it Thank you This might be a really stupid question, but why do I have to manually mount the cf0 (as I never had to do that before)?

You need to move the CF0 file from the Storage/DOSDrivers folder into the Devs/DOSDrivers folder of your boot drive in order for it to be mounted at bootup (just drag it from one folder into the other).

Yes, that's how the files were on v24 and are also now. Strangely the automount does not work for some reason. I just noticed that, if I run the command (card icon shows up), then remove card (icon disappears) and then re-insert the card, it automatically shows up!? I guess this is kinda funky here?

Yes, once you have run the "Mount CF0:" command to get the card icon to show up, it will disappear and reappear every time you remove and replace the card in the same way that a floppy icon does when you remove and replace a floppy disk.

If your automount does not work at bootup, then I suggest that you recheck your startup-sequence for typos and, if that is okay, then overwrite the CF driver files on your hard drive with those from your WB3.1 floppy and see if that helps.

Ok, still no luck with the automount, but I solved the "Intuition is attempting to reset the workbench..." -error on every boot. It was caused by the uaefsdb-file in devs:Monitors... Apparently WinUAE creates those files by itself for some reason. So, if you get that error, you know how to solve it

Actually it seems that the uaefsdb-files caused also the compact flash weirdness. I had one of those dreaded files in the StorageOSDrivers and as soon as I removed it the automount started to work... I then used SimpleFind to locate all those uaefsdb-files (found 245 of them...) and deleted them all. I hope the system runs smoother now

How strange, and a great job in getting to the bottom of this one.

Sounds like you ran the Workbench in a hard drive directory rather than keeping it on the HDF before transferring or zipping since uaefsdb files appeared. Those files don't appear when running on HDF's.

Glad you got it sorted anyway.
