AROS68k: what is needed to run on real hardware?

I want to give AROS a try but I don't know if my machine will handle it.
I have an 030 @ 50 with an FPU at the same speed, plus 64MB of Fast RAM.

Would softkicking the AROS ROM be enough to make it work? Would it then run with WB3.1 or do I need specific software?

Can the ROM be loaded with SKICK or do I need a Blizzard card?

Why would you want to run WB on AROS ROM? Why don't you run AROS on AROS ROM?

I don't think SKICK can handle AROS ROM.

it will work but it wont be fast with wanderer as desktop it its current state. there is a bounty underway for completing workbook, a lightweight desktop replacement with a functionality of workbench 3.1. the bounty just has been introduced:
http://power2people.org/projects/profile/76

alternatively im working on debugging scalos with the help of deadwood.

to run aros on an amiga i would currently advise to download a nightly. however there is a problem with screenmode prefs when it comes to boot into wanderer, so i would probably need to mail you a working prefs file for convenience.

the nightly is here:

http://aros.sourceforge.net/nightly1.php

and here is my guide how to setup nightly to work:

Because I have no idea what I am doing?
I just didn't know if there was a full replacement for the whole of Workbench. If there is, I'd like to try. Workbook sounds cool and I hope someone makes it a reality.

If I can't use skick I am screwed though, because I don't have a blizzard accelerator.

Thanks wawa, I'll look into your guide! Can AROS run with a standard Amiga ROM? Because it seems I can't load an AROS ROM unless I have Blizkick

im not sure my guide is fully up to date but actually it should say it all.

yes. you can simply softkick aros on you amiga rom. an additional line at the beginning of aros startup-sequence is needed. its all in my post.

arosbootstrap (that comes with aros boot disk) is the soft kicker designed for m68k aros. Reset proof, loads as much as possible to fast ram, even if it is not autoconfig fast ram, optionally mmu write protects it if mmu is available and so on.

Other soft kickers can't and won't work.

simply decompress the content of aros iso to a bootable partition on your hd and insert aforementioned arosbootrstrap line in the ss. this already should start.
