AMIX HDF images
Per request I've uploaded a couple of HDF files that have a working AMIX installation with colour X11 working via the PicassoII emulation. More information on AMIX at http://www.amigaunix.com.
The files along with a README are at ~Uploads/Noth . |

There seems to be some problem, it boots up to a CLI but then according to the docs I should type startx to get the GUI, however startx gives this error:
Couldn't open svga screen (/dev/svga0) Fatal error: no screens found giving up /usr/X/bin/xinit: Software caused connection abort (errno 130): unable to connect to X server |

Let me guess: you didn't select a PicassoII in WinUAE.

I was using a configuration I downloaded that was supposed to be for AMIX. You're right, enabling PicassoII fixes the issue. Although X-Windows is using a very strange/buggy keymap, eg. / gives -, = gives ', ] gives +. I guess I will have to edit the keymap to something more sensible.

As mentioned somewhere in the Amix in WinUAE -thread, there is something funny going on with the keymaps. The one selected during the first startup works in the shell but in X-Window I always get a QWERTZ- layout (and I have no idea where to change that).

Great, I can't even select Picasso II within WinUAE.

I have a real dt a3000ux - 4030/50 running Amix 2.1 from tape. The keymaps are messed up in x here too on a real Picasso II+.

Probably because the original author used a german keymap. It seems hardwired although I bet there's some really obscure way of passing a key layout. Nice setup, the 4030 makes your AMIX the fastest you can hit with real HW. How fast does a kernel compile?

Can you recompile the kernel to use more than 16mb RAM?

From what i recall AMIX requires all memory to be contiguous. As you can physically only have 16MB on a A3000/030, i fear the answer is no.
