A1200 with Apollo 1260/66 doesn't power up (when it's cold?)
Hello folks,
got a A1200 with Apollo 1260/66 and Indivision MK2 here. When I try to start up the system it sometimes starts with a grey, black and also a yellow screen. When I restart it a few times, it tends to get better and boots up into Workbench where I activate RemApollo in the startup-sequence. Most of the time he hangs right again on the next (auto)-boot and sometimes it's working and the system is rock solid and can be run for several hours playing system-intensive applications and demos. Due to stability problems before I put a heat sink and fan on the 68060 which really helped a lot. I also exchanged the RAM on the 68060. I have no clue why the system starts up after a few tries. Maybe it needs to get "warm"? Or are there any components like capacitors which get old and need to be replaced? I have no idea. I really need advice. Thanks. Reseat your custom chips. I don't recall which one generates yellow screen at boot time when it fails. Remove the 060 board and see if the same thing occurs without it. Another possibility is the power supply. The 060 board draws more than the stock A1200 does by itself, so you could have some caps in the power supply that are going bad. For me, the problem has always been Agnus or Denise (ECS) not making good connections in their sockets, which generate yellow or green screens at boot up, just like you have described.

There aren't too many reseatable chips in an A1200...

Thanks for your suggestions. I tried it without turbo card - it is booting immediately.
I exchanged the A1200 PSU by another (new) one and it's working now. I really have to build a custom PSU. Still got an old PC PSU here |
