A2000 non-booting prob...
weeeellllllllll
I fired up today the A2000T I received, only to find out it does not boot or do anything... I stripped it only down to the 2630 cpu card and 1 floppy.... it powers on, the monitor picks a signal from the Macrosystem De-Interlace card, but it stays black... and the a2000 does not try to read from the floppy, where a wb3.1 disk is... (the A2000 has 3.1 rom) plus, I press several times the CAPS-Lock key, and after a while it stucks... that is not a good sign... there was battery leakage, but it did not affect much around the area, it is cleaned now, replaced and it looks OK, there is no acid in tracks etc... any ideas what to try next? the trip was a bumpy one, some cards inside where loose when I got it.... thanks! |

Pull out the 030 card and just try the 68000 - and can you plug it into a TV and take out the flickerfixer too ? I'm sure you already have, but make sure all socketed chips are fitting nicely in the sockets.
Always best to try and strip it to the max |

It probably won't make a difference, but when I have a problem I try to remove everything and then get it working. Then put things back 1 by 1...

Too bad to hear another miggy going down.
Those military-spec A2000's are a dying breed i suppose , as are other Amigas too. |

I removed all chips from the mobo and give it a good clean... I also noticed one pin on the lower CIA was bent, and thus not in it's socket... I hope when I re-assemble it it will work...
here it is, the a2000 chips! Last edited by keropi; 10 May 2007 at 11:21. |

Many A2000 motherboards had "hot fixes" to the motherboard to fix PCB design errors. Look around for any such "hot fixes" as they are often a source of problems, dry joints etc.
BTW: What is an A2000T? |

hot fixes??? dunno, it was supposed to work with that config... also it is a rev6.2 mobo, so it should be OK...

"hot fixes" = Single wires going from pins on chips to fix layout mistakes on PCB.
I asked about the A2000T, not because I did not know what the T stood for, but that I didnt know there was ever an A2000 tower kit. Who made it for example? |

dunno who made it, it looks like this:
Comp. Z Big Tower but it is made for A2000... it is actually a nice tower ... I still have not put it back to see if the CIA pin was to blame... |

Try a different kickstart ROM.
Any chance you can send me some close ups of the back of the tower for BBoAH? |

Check the PSU power supply under load with a meter?
If you dont have an A500/600 you're a bit screwed when it comes to testing stuff. Not got a mate with an A500? |
