Hello, i have an Archos pcmcia CDRW 4x4x32 drive from an old laptop and i want to know if it would work for the amiga 1200.
In case afirmative, is needed a special driver or something like that?. It would be cool to have this unit working on my miggy.

No drivers exist. You must write your own or get someone who knows how to do it for yoiu. :-)

Uhmm ....

AFAIK the Archos Overdrive PCMCIA Solution was resold by Amiga Inc. as "Q-Drive" for A600/A1200 .... so those drivers should/may/could work ??

Well, we'll see whether that works.

The OP is asking for drivers for an Archos CD-RW drive that if used with a PC laptop should have an ide controller chip inside the PCMCIA card.

The Amiga OverDrive however was basically just speaking the mitsumi protocol through the PCMCIA bus (ie. no logic, only wires between the PCMCIA port and the CD-ROM).. The implementation of the Amiga's PCMCIA port is a tad simpler than the ones you find in PC laptops. :-)

Ok, Retroman, will try the Qdrive driver first and see if it works.
I will keep you informed.

Any updates on whether the 'Q-Drive' drivers worked?

I had one of these a few years ago and found it to be very temperental with it not being recognised on start-up.

In answer to what's within the PCMCIA cable - not much at all.
No chip, just wires and a brass ribbon.

On having completely ruined the cable, I came to the conclusion that it was probably a software problem!
