Question about burning roms to a flash chip
Hi there,
well I want to program flashchips so that I can burn the Rom 3.2.2.1 on it. Here is a link to a programmer Would it be sufficent or do I need another version? Also which are the correct flashchips for a A1200, (as far as I see there are Hi and LO romfiles. So that I maybe need two flashchips? or is there someone from germany who can burn these (A1200, A500, A500plus and A600)? I can provide the rom files. Any help would be appreciated |

Your programmer should be sufficient, but make sure you're using the right flash chips. For an A1200, you'll indeed need both a Hi and Lo ROM.
As for someone in Germany who can help you, have you tried looking at local electronics or hobbyist groups? They can often be very helpful. By the way, I've done a bit of ROM burning myself in the past. Feel free to reach out if you need more detailed advice. |

You cannot use "flash chips" directly.
Amiga only has support for EPROMs. The correct EPROM is the 27C400 (x2 for A1200). Some people have created 27Cxxx EPROM emulators which use flash chips. https://www.retrosupplies.co.uk/amig...ulus-for-amiga http://www.boobip.com/hardware/27C400_EMU https://www.tindie.com/products/ggla...or-amiga-kick/ https://shred.zone/cilla/page/467/flash-amiga-rom.html https://github.com/OlegMishin/FlashROM https://onyxsoft.se/flashrom.html Last edited by alexh; 26 June 2023 at 17:00. |

Well on ebay there are two variants of the 27C400. One is with 120DC and the other one with 150DC in the name.
Can I use these also for flashing eproms for A500 A600 and A2000? |

Those are the speed rating. I think 150 would work but buy the 120 rated ones unless they are very much more expensive.
Yes these are the same ones as in A500/A600/A2000. You might want to consider 27C800 parts for A600 (or A500 Rev8) and then you can add a simple switch to one pin to make a kickstart switcher (e.g. KS1.3 & KS3.2.2.1) |

Probably require printer (parallel) port so you may be out of luck in modern PC (and my assumption is that software can be very limited also with quirks to get access to parallel port under modern OS). Go for something more modern, even one of many of the TL866 incarnations - there is many different ones, easily they can be equipped with adapter like 27C800 programming even advertised as Amiga ROM adapter. https://www.ebay.de/sch/i.html?_from...tl866&_sacat=0 |

Side to programmer you need proper adapter (not sure if you choose EPROM like 27C400 or some FLASH on PCB emulating 27C400/27C800) Something like https://www.ebay.de/sch/i.html?_from...7c800&_sacat=0 - they are even advertised as 'Amiga' Perhaps buying programmer with adapter will be cheaper. |

This combination worked well for me:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195210569750 and the adapter: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184084644102 I used it for 27C400/800 and also for the CDTV Extended ROMs |

I found someone over at Amibay who can program me eproms. So that I do not have to spent that much money for justt one or two programming sessions.
