a3k floppy !
hey all, well solved the broken a3k floppy with replacing with a a500 floppy.. this is how it went..
1, placed a500 floppy in 1st bay. 2, then lined up the 2nd drive bay bracket to the a500 floppy in bay 1. 3, used a sharpie marker and marked where the holes lined up from the bracket to the floppy drive and marked the floppy drive where the holes were. 4, took my cordless drill and drilled the hole. bingo screw holes.. made sure the holes were a bit smaller than the screw so the can self tap when screwed in. 5, took a old metal cover from a pc slot and used it to cover the holes in metal case, reason being so the screws i put in the a500 drive would have something to sit on. 6, i put bracket on the case where he floppy drive sits and took the cordless drill and drilled a hole thur the pc slot cover and again marked where the hole lines up on the a3k and drilled that hole too.. but carefully not to go thur the metal casing fully. there are 2 parts to the casing and drilling the first part is enough for a screw to fasten on the bracket and the casing. not touching the inner part where the motherboard sits.. 7, to be safe took my air line from my portable compressor and blew out a3k just in case of metal shavings from step 6. 8, put screws in bottom of a500 drive and raised them enough so drive sits in its cradle nice and the eject button and drive lines up nice.. hooked up power and ribbons. 9, screwed the lid back on and booted up... WORKS GREAT! |

All Amigas support HD drives (but the A1000).
Normally the A3000 comes with one fitted (the dead one you have). |

Remember the HD floppy drives demand a very high price. Buying one is expensive.
The original HD units for the Amiga are FB-357 (30mm height) or FZ-357 (25mm height). |
