Amiga Scene Group Names & Abbreviations in Excel/Access

Starting this thread to release the other thread Req: Short Names Of Crackergroups?

This thread is *NOT* for the posting of proof for new additions to group name abbreviations, PLEASE USE THE THIS THREAD Req: Short Names Of Crackergroups?

This thread is only for the purpose of helpful ideas, sensible improvements, additions and deletions that I or anyone may suggest. It is also here for me to post any updates that I may have implemented with or without EAB members knowledge.

I have also renamed the main Title to a more generic one as the list contains group names and abbreviations of other groups not directly involved with cracking/hacking/training, but are/were 100% involved with the Amiga scene. These groups created slide shows, demo's, music demo's and other Amiga related productions for Demoscene parties etc.....

Here's an explanation into what I am doing.

1. Creating a spreadsheet for cracking group names including abbreviation where proved, from this thread 'Req: Short Names Of Crackergroups?', or within [idoru]/bippy list, with the users name/handle and single post added as source of proof.

2. Added every name/abb from the TOSEC Amiga game datfile.

3. Adding to, or confirming what I have in the list already from Exotica, BTTR and Bitfellas.

4. Separating the entries with colours for filtering purposes. Green = OK, Orange = To Check and Red = Unproven. Also a tick next to the group name means it has been proven to exist by more than 1 source, and a tick next to the abbreviation means it is only used for that group name, regardless of other groups using the same abbreviation.

5. Added Year Start and a Year End columns, pretty obvious this one.

6. Added another column Old/New, as some groups died and were reborn but they used slightly different abbreviations. (ie. Skidrow = SKR (Old) SR (New))

7. Added a country column, to help reduce repetitions of the same groups from different countries etc....

8. To add an info column, pretty obvious

9. When I'm finished my huge task. I'll import it into the 'TOSEC Amiga Games Datfile' Access database and work from thereon, but until I've finished it'll be staying right where it is.

10. This *is* WIP, so it will continually be updated as the years pass by.

Any more ideas or improvements are welcome and if you really want to help, look for the abbreviations, check the above link, and don't forget, we need proof, screenshots are usually the best proof, with both the cracking group name and abbreviation all in the same shot

I am not sure but I believe the correct format for this would be 'Abbreviation, Group Name, Proof', however, we seem to be doing it 'Group name, Abbreviation, Proof'. I don't think it matters too much, we all get the jist

*************** All 'Updated Statistics' will be posted below into this post, the latest being in red ***************

Statistics (26th Mar 09)
3355 group names (includes cooperations and joint productions)
768 known abbreviations (272 proven, 341 unproven, 155 to check and 2741 without)

@Mai
5th Generation seems to be a publisher, if you are 100% sure I can remove this from my main list or just leave it as an unproven group name

@PandMonium
Cheers for the confirmations, there will be many more to be checked. I have gone through #, A, B and C so far and there seems to be quite a few that need some extra confirming. Some undoubtedly will be typos, and will be removed when fully confirmed

My SP has blocked the site for some reason, so I can't access it. Maybe you could post a screenshot of the page for me

If I were to publish a list of verified group names that currently have missing abbreviations, your going to get a list of 1,343 (currently) and some of these group names never had abbreviations anyway. There are also another 1,354 group names that are unproven and/or require confirmation.

I think, for now, anyway, I will not publish this list, as it would be rather silly to publish something that is not nearly finished and is very WIP at the moment. Also, the list is unofficial and I would rather have [idoru] or Bippym give the list the thumbs up before releasing it into the public eye. Also if it gets out onto the web, unofficially, it will just become another source of uncertanty regarding group names and abbreviations and this is what I *don't* want to happen.

There are a lot of if's and but's that are making me very causious at the moment, and because of this reason alone, I will have to decline your request until I am satisfied the list is as accurate as possible. This does not mean I won't publish the list, it just means it'll be delayed for a while

Edit: Just found 5th Generation on Pouet.net They do appear to be a Spanish Demoscene group

Guess Design seems to be an ascii subgroup, considering the fact that it
consists entirely of 2KAD members, and the intro for one of their
collections bore the heading 2000 AD. Members are: Warlock, Toms, Zero and
Elmore, according to the intro.
  1992 - Ozzy at one time, in mid to late 92, had Denmarks largest

Also Firelord/Danger Productions joined briefly in september. German sysop
Fornax ('EUROPE'S HEART', ex Vogue) left for Dual Crew around october, while
Danish sysop Circulator ('VIRTUAL REALITY') joined from The Silents. Danish
Ozzy opened the board 'VALHALLA' around october with the help of DD7, who
soon after opened his own board '100 PERCENT'. Danish sysop Energy ('NONSTOP
UP'N'DOWN'), who had joined from Cult in the middle of the year, was kicked
around october due to hacking on some of their other boards! I have
information that he was a member again in april of 1995... is this right?
Delirium changed his handle to Network 10 around october. Swiss sysop Spider
('DREAM PARK') joined from Legend, but didn't stay long. He joined Crack

  'PLASTIC PASSION', 09/92) and Shock joined Skid Row.
Danish musician Hellrazor joined Palace. He worked on the "Enjoystick" [90]

@TCD
That's where I got my list from, but I would like it to be double confirmed from another source but I've already done that on Pouet.net

@rygar
If you are talking about abbreviations that have no group names then look here http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=...&postcount=161 If you are talking unproven group names, I'm still in the process of doing that. I have only given a taster, for now, until I have completed everything from A-Z. Once this is finished I'll publish all the ones I have that need proving. I am currently up to and including 'C', so I have a long way to go for now.

Edit: I am also adding the country of origin in another column next to the groups, and this is why I'm only up to 'C'. I'm going to be doing this for some time, but please be patient, I *WILL* need help soon enough

Ah! I see. The same text files 'do' spread all over the place don't they

Anyway, I think when I'm finished with Bitfellas, I'll turn my attention to Pouet.net, they seem to have some of the missing group names I require

Must admit Galahad, I haven't been able to find any cracktro/demo/trainer for it anywhere. I also believe that a screenshot of a cracktro/demo/trainer is the best proof there is and I have not been able to find anything for them. Maybe you're right, it could be fake, so I'll mark it up as a possible fake.

Maybe you're right, it could be fake, so I'll mark it up as a possible fake.
I'm pretty sure (i.e. 10000%) that the Hybris crack by Quartex will look the same.

Thats the EXACT kind of text they put in, and "the only name in the business" was their catchphrase.

nice Galahad
I forgot to say that that image was probably (almost sure) taken from:
"Hybris (1988)(Discovery)[cr QTX][h CCS - 9009 XAD]"
So i guess you were right and 9009 XAD was some guy or group that just hacked this (like the filename points already), still is some valid scener or so i suppose

btw nice memory

This time the name is correct., i mean cr QTX.
Its 100% a QTX crack.
9009 XAD claims this crack as their own, but they forgot to remove
"Quartex" string from the "Hybris" main-exe.
