Test of MPDOS (Amiga 500 Floppy Emulator)

Hi all,

I noticed some posts about the Multi-platform Distributive Operating System (MPDOS) for Amiga created by http://www.krishnasoft.com/sps.htm#MPDOSProAmiga and I wanted to share a proof that it actually works very well.

For those who cannot figure out what it actually does, hopefully these points should set it straight:
1: Use a custom cable connected to your PC PAR LPT port.
2: Connect the other end to your floppy connector on the Amiga mainboard.
3: Use ADF images from PC and prepare a emulation with custom software.
4: Let now your Amiga BOOT and LOAD games/demos directly from your PC!
5: No more use for physical disks when playing with Amiga!

The blogpost is located here:

Hope it will help others that seeks knowledge and proof of this system. I must say I had severe problems getting it to work, mainly because of the very strict PAR: LPT port. MPDOS is really hardware dependent and I salute the author for answering my many emails during that troublesome time.

I ended up buying an old Toshiba Tecra 8000 (as suggested by the author) and man, it really works. I've watched countless demos :-)

So unfortunately the usability is quite limited to PC older Hardware as newer PCs do not have Parallel ports anymore. Too bad.

i have built lately a mini-PC 'shuttle', a core2duo one. It has parallel port on it !!!!!
you must add the cable to the motherboard and it's done !!

Heh, the great thing about old computers and laptops are the fact they are still very useable to do hardware stuff like this. I love old mainboards with LPT's and COM's...heheh.. They cost like nothing really...just junk people around me toss away.

I even created an TFT display stand (SODAS @ Youtube) based around an extremely old MiniPC from Inside Technology 1997 - 686LCD/S CPU BOARD with 233MHz Pentium II and 32MB RAM and 10GB 2.5" Hitachi Harddrive. Works like a charm and proof that old hardware are a goldmine for crazy diy's out there

I didn't figure out the DF1, DF2, DF3 and the pre-cut cables on the MPDOS though...anybody got that working?

StoneOakvalley, that SODAS is fantastic . Really nice job on it - I really like that it's obvious what went into it.

Great piece of work, thanks for sharing . Might have to look into how to cut/polish perspex...
