AmigaOS 4.1 Classic Available To Buy

AmigaOS 4.1 Classic, the long awaited Classic Amiga system update is now available to purchase.

It updates your Classic Amiga equipped with CyberStorm PPC or Blizzard PPC to the latest AmigaOS 4.1 (Update 2) standard and builds on the foundations of AmigaOS 4.0. This is the first major update for Classic Amigas for three years.

Supplied on Amiga CD with Boot Installation Floppy Disk, two printed manuals and box.

Notably this latest system software provides support for ZorRAM Memory Expansion due to the extra memory burdens of modern applications.

Amingst the many improvements, AmigaOS 4.1 Classic also supports Warp3D hardware acceleration support for Radeon, Voodoo 3/4/5 and Cybervision / Blizzardvision PPC (stable beta version for Permedia2-based cards).

Elbox hardware such as Mediator PCI busboard and FastATA are supported. FastATA now has native driver support.

This update is the result of many months of hard work to bring new life to Classic Amigas. Special thanks go to Hyperion Entertainment, Carl Moppett, Darren Eveland, Steven Solie, Michael Boehmer, Elbox Computer, ACube Systems, Martin Merz and the many beta testers.

Where To Buy:
AmigaKit.com
Alinea Computer (Germany)
ACube Systems (Italy)

Its only for PPC's. It would never run on a 68K CPU.

Pity they won't port it to the Mac Mini. A small form factor machine with AOS4 and MorphOS would be very nice.

Ah, the word Classic is a little misleading then.

Not really, .
The description, states "with a CSPPC / BPPC Accellerator card".

But who knows, be nice to have something like OS4.1 for a none PPC classic Amiga.

How is an Amiga fitted with a PPC Accellerator card classic? Classic is 68k in my eyes.

I'm probably the only one with that opinion but I'm sticking with it.

lol, what you like, my 030 is an addon, does that mean its not classic, .
I know what you mean though, this is why people need to read more than the title.
The description, explains all .

Your 030 is 68k tho, for all intents and purposes it's a faster upgrade of the original 020.

PPC is not classic in my eyes.

Anyway I'm not that au fait with the later os' to be honest. I'll back down now.

Well as usual nothing is simple with Amiga

Although claiming to support the FastATA the installer does not pick up my DVDRW attached, at first I thought it was bacause I have the DVD on IDE2 so I moved it to IDE1 but still not picked up so I can't install!

It says in the manual if you have IDEFix you need the CD on IDE1 hence why I tried that.

So now I guess I have to pull the whole system apart, all the PCI cards and Mediator and pull out the FastATA and use an IDEFix or 4WayIDE to install.

Thing is, will the FastATA be supported if I do that? Grrr. Not to mention the pain in the ass it is to strip the whole thing down, re-fit Roms, etc...

There's nothing I can find in the Manual about the FastATA so I guess I'll send an email off to Amigakit before I pull this thing apart in case there is some super secret trick I dont know

Oh, somthing else I spotted in the manual, you cannot have two PCI VGA cards in the system at the same time, not supported so I guess there goes the idea of a Dual boot OS3.9 with Voodoo and OS4.1 with Radeon

Going to read the manual again in case I missed anything.

Steve.

FastATA certainly does work with AmigaOS 4.1 Classic.

It works fine with my FastATA MKII at home and the office A1200 which has the newer FastATA MKIII

The CD drive must be either unit 0 or unit 1.

Then either click the Installation Utility from Workbench 3.x or boot from the Boot Floppy.

when installing OS4.0 it may not see the drive due to slow start-up of the drive.

i here have may have to do anything upto 30 soft reset for the OS to see the CD/DVD IDE drive. (FastATA MKIII)

Tried everything, I couldn't get the DVD to pick up with the FastATA so I had to pull it and install a 4Way IDE, OS4.1 has just booted from CD so we're making some progress!

Well install = Fail

Locked up at 87%, I think the PPC overheated. Dosen't bode well since this is one of Stans upgraded BPPC with new Fan/Cooler

PPC H/S was pretty hot, guess I need to get another fan on it for installation.

Why oh why did I think it would just be a case of popping the CD in and installing

Guess I owe you all some pics of the work so far...

And this is as far as i got!

I'll have to borrow the SLI Fan off my A1200D
