SWOS - The End?
It gets worse. I just checked SWOS 24/7 for the first time in a while, and the top news is that Jon Hare has left Codemasters [the peeps that bought Sensible out]. By my reckoning, this lessens the chance of a future SWOS game by about 100%.
There is a petition on SWOS 24/7 (and on several other sites) demanding a new game, but if Codemasters had wanted to do a version for, say, the GBA, they would surely have done so by now. That would have been cool. But ooh no. Good thing the Amiga version is so playable; I will probably be able to keep playing the current edition forever. It would have been nice to try a brand new edition though. Someone cheer me up, please! |

A quick lesson in business economics
1). Codemasters own the Copyright to the Sensible name and to all their games.
2). They also own all the source code, graphics and sound to all versions of all Sensible games. 3). SWOS was a big money spinner, and there is no way on this planet that Codemasters would let SWOS not get further releases, after all, there is no point buying all that stuff if Cannon Fodder is the only release! I would bet my life, you will see SWOS again on other formats. The end. |

Gee, thanks
OK, you’re on. I know all of these things already, but thanks for the positive outlook. I hope you are right.
I just wonder what Codemasters are playing at, as they have sat on the Sensible acquisition since 1999 and done nothing with their oh-so-valuable football franchise. Why not? Waiting for 3D games to go out of fashion? Now one of the blokes largely responsible for SWOS has walked out. This does not tell me that they believe in it very much. btw, can everyone sign the petition, please? What the hey - it can't hurt. |

But without Jon Hare at the forefront of the game design, would you really want to see a conversion done by someone else? Whilst I was never a Sensi soccer fan,(but had followed Sesible Software from their C64 days), I respect the obvious efforts that Jon Hare & co. at sensible put into the gameplay of the Sensible Soccer games to make them the success they were.

You're kidding, right? The latest SWOS on PC was a downright very lousy footy game.

It's just my opinion I've stated, and there's no need to post a one-liner to get back at me. I liked it, and it's not possible to change my mind |

Yep, the LAST PC SWOS was 3D. teh 2D PC SWOS was released before SWOS 3D.
I don't know, something about it was not right in my eyes... Not seeing dinky little players took the Sensi feel out of it for me |

It wasn´t called SWOS the 3D game, it was called Sensible Soccer something.

I've just started a new swos game - i need not have worried that it might be showing it's age(amiga 95/96 version!). One of the all time greats. And i only ever really play it in managment mode - Its a superb strategy game! Never played the 3D version - but i doubt i would have liked it better. Additions that i felt would be good to do in a new version(i guess pc only ) - extend the managment options further with a few things like ground improvements, player specific training(to improve fitness/speed/finishing etc), and a more realistic budget system.
All the real sensi-players might not use these functions but for the managment side of things this would be awesome. This game is so addictive(put it this way its as much fun as medieval Total War on the pc, and this is the second time around for swos!). |

man, look at this!
www.sensiblesoftware.com it's at least, weird! The 3D game is called Sensible Soccer 98, NOT SWOS 3D or SWOS anything. It's just Sensible Soccer 98 , without the word "world" . I personally had lost hope of a new sensible soccer ages ago. It doesn't matter, they would NEVER stick with the original idea, because it wouldn't sell. Now without Jon Hare, Sensible Software is gone, Sensible soccer is gone. Even if they make a new one, it will never be like the one I know. Now I am off to a game of the original SWOS. Leave me alone |
